Advent Vega?

Just tried Samurai II Vengeance THD which works flawless on the Vega.

You have to install it from an APK though as the market link does not install without a hack

The long-awaited Samurai II: Vengeance has finally arrived on Android !

This Tegra HD version Samurai II: Vengeance is optimized for use on NVIDIA Tegra based Android devices only.

While the iOS version got rave reviews for its stylized manga graphics and quick, bloody gameplay, Samurai II for Tegra based Android phones and tablets delivers even more visual stunning graphics and polished gameplay.

I had a play with a Vega in the Purp shirt shop today for the first time. They had a Vega set up on wifi and they I had a play for about 20mins before any shop staff approached me!!
Absoluely loved it, capacitive screen seems very responsive, viewing angles were OK but not as good as an Ipad. I was watching QI on BBC Iplayer and I was very impressed with the Flash support, very smooth and no blockiness.
So I could not resist at the reasonable price, I could not justify spending £499 on a wifi Xoom with pretty much the same hardware.

I went back yesterday and asked if I could have the same offer on the case + screen protector because I had no extra money on me on wednesday.
They let me have the same deal and the case is well worth it.
You can turn the front cover over so that it acts as a stand (wasn't sold for that purpose but it works).

I've installed the latest modaco rom and have installed a few apps. So far pretty impressed, I've even had my wife's huawei 3g dongle working on it as well in slave usb mode.

Last night I premiered it on stage and it was perfect.
With my new band I'm playing guitar and singing and because of my inability to remember words I have a lyrics book on a music stand but I have trouble seeing it because of the light - NOT NOW

You're in good company ... according to the Rock Family Trees program on Deep Purple/Rainbow/Black Sabbath etc when Ian Gillan briefly was lead singer for Black Sabbath he had difficulty learning the words so he had them written out on cards propped up behind the monitor spearkers ... worked fine in rehearsal but as the first performance started they disappeared under the smoke effects!

If I'm correct that was when he was doing his first gig for Black Sabbath.
It was also the idea for Spinal Tap with their Stonehenge scene because Black Sabbath ordered a Stonehenge that couldn't fit on any stages so Spinal Tap used a metre square one in their film.

Bought Samurai II, excellent game, but after buying on the market, I had to then google for the apk to download and install from the SD card :( pain but worth it...

Only gripe is that I cannot seam to get into the combos shop... (the icon in the top left of the game screen) when I tap it, all I get is a short noise/click, but no menu, so I'm stuck on level 3 using the basic moves :(
Anybody else got this game on their Vega... does it work for you?

I had one of these for a few days but it wasnt for me, many thanks to the op for the help he gave me btw.

Couple of things that niggled me was the gsensor and the viewing angles, had they worked then id of kept it, luckily i managed to get my money back on fleabay :)

as an owner of a ipod touch 4th gen, i am very very tempted to get an ipad 2. i have a few questions about this to see if its a viable alternative,

is android as easy to update as ios? so i can get 3.0 when its out.

does this comes with all of the features of the android os without moding, because it seems all android devices have different versions and features. if not how easy it is to mod to make sure i have everything.

how does the apps support compare to apple? is it as easy to access, download, use, and function. and how many apps are there compare to apple?

how is the screen compare to the apple devices? my ipod has an amazing screen and ipad 2 looks to have an amazing screen, and i think it plays a big part in my purchase.

and how sensitive and respontives of this compared to ipad, iphone, or other competitors? i think ease of use is the keyword here.

Hopefully, it uses the Tegra 2 chipset with is required for 3.0

No, you will need to install the market your self via an apk file - just download the file on your pc, whack it over and run it

lower app count, but still thousands

Screen is no way near as good, but it's only £250 ;)

Very sensitive, maybe to much

Personally if I was buying right now I would have gone for this: Apple iPad 16GB - £329
Available at a high street store.

I do think I've made a little mistake buying the Advent Vega because of the IPAD price drop but the Vega is still a brilliant device.
It is true that the screen isn't as good and the viewing angles are poor.
I originally didn't want a big IPOD Touch and then ended up with an IPAD copy (flame on).
I do find the modding of the Vega excellent but the IPAD is great straight out of the box.

I'm in the same boat as dmpoole, and agree. I think I bought my Vega the same day or so as him which was under a week before the iPad drop. However, the viewing angle isn't that much of an issue.

iPad would have been much better out the box, but even as an owner of a jailbroken iPhone 3GS I have no doubt that the Vega was still the right choice for what I wanted - a new gadget, something to browse on in bed/on the sofa, a wireless pc remote, amongst others.

a few more questions,

how well its made on the outside? eg. how solid it feels when you hold it?

and how well does android function in terms of features and user friendly compare to ios?

It's solidly built, the back is plastic and the front isn't ground breaking in terms of looks. I didn't like the huge border around the screen at first but quickly got over it.

It has the same functionality, and more, however, out of the box it's just simply not as nice an experience as iOS.

I've used mine for a week now and love it, I have a few apps I want (Machinma, FB, Dolphin Browser, etc) and spend just as much time playing with it as I do with my PC. My laptop (which now resides at my other halves) has pretty much been pushed to one side.

I've had my Vega since Sunday and I am very impressed, technically the dual core processor and graphics are superior to the Ipad, I am running the R8 mod from Modaco and I am very impressed - I am used to Cyanogen CM7 on my GT540 so I am used to Android, clockwork mod and rom flashing. If you like to tweak and customise then Android is excellent - if you want an out of the box OS get the Ipad because iOS 4.2 is very good.
I wanted Flash support - the Vega supports this very well using adobe flash 10.1, you can get an nvidia optimised Flash apk that runs on the Vega. Watching BBC iplayer on the Vega is very impressive. Apple just do not want to know about Flash.

After 5 days of ownership, I feel the Vega has been a good purchase.

I bought the case + screen protector for an extra £29 and the case is well worth it so the 'feel' of the Vega feels like a well protected case.
You can also turn the front cover over and turn it into a V shaped stand.
I'm going to customise it a bit with a longer strap and velcro so it stays up on a slippy table.
