Hi all,

I need to create a information system similar to a wiki/html help file that will sit on a central file server and allow people to read info on lots of different topics.

I need it to be on a file server so I only have to update the one file.

And using a wiki program is out because it is just a file server with no SQL/webserver systems etc.

HTML help would be ideal, but as far as I am aware you can't host it in a server...

Any suggestions?

You can host a chm file wherever you like.

You'd be better off with a webhost, why cant you install apache on the "file server".

Strict IT rules, no one here even has admin rights to a PC and it's pathetic.

I am sure I read that a CHM file couldn't be used by several people at the same time on a windows server :(

I'll go off and do a bit more research on it. :)

thanks

Do you not have a spare pc you could set up as a host? It would be internal so there is no security risk.

Minimal Linux or Windows install with Apache would work just fine on some old dusty box you have laying around. As Sp00n says, security is not much of an issue if it is all internal.

Or if you could spare the reources, maybe run a vmware LAMP from a server/machine somewhere.

It's just the best way to do it and allows you to use a better system in the long run.
