Advice on building a good pc under £400

No, the motherboard VGA output is linked up directly to the motherboard: the only thing necessary is the VGA cable from the motherboard to the monitor.

If it was starting up, as you said earlier, then you should be getting something on the monitor. Try the HDMI output, and maybe resetting the CMOS again.

yea I'm stumped as to why nothing is appearing on the monitor.

it would be so much easier if you had a "motherboard speaker" to attach as you could be missing error code beeps from your motherboard that could help us determine exactly what is wrong

they are about £1.50

even me new £120 case didn't come with one , my sons £70 case did not have one either.
there was a time when the speaker was build into the motherboard itself and then a time when every case seemed to come with one.
since high end motherboards have a little LED number display it seems they are never included any more and they must only cost 10 pence to manufacture if you were a motherboard/case manufacturer getting them in bulk.
you are so unlucky to have a pc build that doesn't just work out of the box though , I've been building computers for over 10 years and never had a problem so far.

don't let one hiccup put you off building your own again in the future.

the only thing I could think of is there seems to be a wire with a connection coming directly from where the hdmi port is on the motherboard , try removing it and then reinserting it?

Never seen a hdmi port build into a mobo like that before tbh. (EDIT: never mind it's apparently just the cmos battery being completely different to how they normally are)

also if you didn't already try the hdmi port on your tv you should, I think you said you were trying the vga port with your monitor.

OK I've done the following things but none of them worked.

I plugged the hdmi cable to the pc, the tv automatically went to HDMI mode but nothing was shownon the tv.
- I removed all the components and connected the 24 and 4 pin power connectors, shortened the power pins, the pc turned on, nothing on the monitor; plugged the HDMI and nothing; did all this after shorting cmos and still nothing.

:/

what does rma means?

would it be possible to test whether is the CPU or motherboard? I don't want to send back the wrong item or multiple items if I can know which one is faulty.

ps: just to be clear I bought the cpu from OC and the motherboard from ebay
here's the motherboard link(is the same motherboard in my opinion but I'm giving the link just in case I made a mistake)

RMA is an authorised return to the seller for a refund or replacement.

Only way I can think of to test for certain is if you have another compatible motherboard or cpu to test with!

As I said, unless someone comes up with a better idea, maybe try ringing up OCUK's tech support and see if they can help.

I've received a replacement motherboard today and tested it, still the same problem; it says no video output and it doesn't work on the HDMI either.

I guess the only thing left to do in this case is that the CPU is faulty right?

ps:how do I return the product, I can't see any section that allows me to do this on the overclockers main website

It seems like it's my bad luck as people usually say that these things work straight out of box :/

I have received the replacement cpu and apparently that was the reason why I was getting "NO VGA OUTPUT"

However, now that I've installed the new cpu,I get "NO Video Input"

What's the difference?

sorry for maybe seeming like a fool but i once got this error and it was doing my swede in

then i realised i had plugged my hdmi into hdmi 2 thinking i had put it in hdmi 3 and had the channel on the tv to hdmi 3 and there was obviously nothing in it lol

switched it over to hdmi 2 and it was there all ready lmao wasnt funny at the time

but maybe just maybe :)

hmmmmmm have you seated the cpu in the socket correctly? ie lifted the little metal arm up before popping the cpu in, then closing it properly? once came across a mate's first build like that.

if those pics are anything to go by, you have a floppy disk power connector on the sysfan header

*edit*

I assume the cable above the header for the shot is what you had plugged into the sysfan header? as that appears to be a floppy power connector if my eyes don't decieve me.

If it was, there's every chance either your board is fried, and possibly your PSU.

Hi,those pics are old , I remember using the 4 pin (the one connected in the pic that your stating to be the floppy disk connector)
but it wasn't working back then.
I then realized that I was using the wrong connector, I am now using 3 pin connector coming from the CPU fan and one coming from the sysfan(again it's a pin connector).

The situation is this now. I turn on, sometime it works, I can do anything on the computer . When I shut it down and restart it, it stops working, it keeps saying no signal.
sometime when I shut it down, the screen goes black, the fan keeps running and I have to manually shut it; when I try to turn it on again, it shows no video input.

So I'm struggling to understand what could be causing the problem as it works and it doesn't

It can't be anything to do with vga cable and monitor as I use the same for my other pc and they work.
