Advice on how to haggle?

And all the sales managers I spoke to in my time in the industry would not trade a car unless:

a) It's over age (which begs it's own questions).
b) There is something majorly wrong with the car (see point a).

Errr how about the most blatantly obvious one in the book...

c) It is not the sort of car they deal with?

Go and trade an immaculate SL55 AMG into a BMW dealer and see where it goes - hint, it won't end up the BMW dealers forecourt! I cannot imagine a Honda main dealer wanting a Ford Fiesta for much the same reason, so he'll offer it to other traders who WILL want the Fiesta.

Doesn't seem a bad shout considering they haven't seen it, did they say this is the minimum, or based on physical inspection this is what you would get?

Also seems like the £600 they knocked off was the 'openroad pack', which if so means, no warranty etc etc.

There's other traders in the Benfield group he can shift it on to, however he is the only Honda dealer within the group.

Erm, I was talking about the S2000? Based on the assumption he was getting it from a Honda dealer.

Yes, he is buying an S2000 from a Honda Dealer but TRADING IN a Ford Fiesta. Why would a Honda Dealer want a Fiesta? They wont, so they'll move it on within the trade, which is what they've begun to get quotes for.

The openroad pack has not been removed from the car as it's a requirement as fox states.

No it doesn't, a Honda main agent is not going to sell a Honda Approved Used Car with no warranty. Do you really work in this industry? :confused:

Oh FFS, you are starting to royally do my ******* head in Fox.

All used cars would come with remainder of warranty, then 12 months used car warranty (standard practice at Toyota). Anything over and above this was chargeable at Toyota.

Yes granted he is trading in a Fiesta, but he has stated that there is another dealer who will offer full price for the car (assumption says this is the S2000) hence why he pushing him to put a deposit on this car, why would he put a deposit on his Fiesta to sell to them?

Upon reading the contents of the pack, it sounds like standard dealer facilities, why would they charge for this?

Which I said in one of my posts earlier. And no I don't work in the industry anymore, I did however used to.

Well done - but you said..

no warranty etc etc..

Which is completely wrong.

why would they charge for this?

They dont charge for it, its included in all used cars from Honda main dealers, he's just putting a value on it to make the deal sound better than it is. Standard technique.

Ok, I phrased what I said about the warranty wrongly.

The other dealer interested though, I would like clarification on this from Pike.

The wording used was "There is another trader from within the group interested [in the S2000]".

The Honda garage rang round the Ford dealers in the group to get me a trade in price.

It was stated that I still got the openroad pack after he'd offered me the lower price to make up the difference.

Of course you will, they are standard dealer facilities.

I admit, I mis-read your post on the openroad pack, and upon reading the webiste about the pack, it's as Fox said, a technique to make it sound better than it is.

Then I still stand by original post regarding this matter then, he is talking BS like I was about the cost for the openroad pack. ;)

I received a call for an offer of £5400 for my Zetec-S, I want nearer 6k as I said in my OP so he's gone back to talk to someone.

He did mention on the phone that all used cars do include an 'Openroad' package which is worth about £600 although this shouldn't really affect anything.

* Comprehensive Warranty
* A least 12 months Roadside Assistance
* 30 day 'no quibble' exchange
* 'Experian' vehicle history and mileage check
* Accident Management Cover
* Quality Assured
* 7 days free insurance

When you break them down, which of them are actually useful and would be worth paying for anyway. These are the only ones that offer a saving to you personally, the rest is just filler nonsense.

If it was me, i'd be looking at:
Warranty- how comprehensive? does it just cover things that the dealer is obliged to deal with under your statutory rights? How long?

AA Cover- Do you already have it with your insurance or bank account? How much is the actual cover worth?

History Check, can be done for <£5 over the phone.

'No-quibble exchange' - What a load of rubbish. Standard customer service, nothing extra to what you'd expect at a dealer.

Accident management cover - Call helphire yourself, it's free. It the claim's your fault then your insurance will deal with it.

Quality Assured - Do they not give you a quality car if you don't have this package?

7 Days free insurance - worth a max of £100 even going through dayinsure or similar. Even less if you sort your own insurance out when you pick it up.

After all this I wasn't really happy with the paintwork on the car, scratches on the bootlid and the wing and he couldn't guarantee they would be corrected, also Red seems as bad as black for showing swirls! I'm on the lookout for a Silver one now, every one that's for sale seems to be in Surrey/Essex, that's a 10hr round trip :(
