Advice On kits cars.

Guess I'm gonna look for a tidy second hand Mazda MX 5 then.
Is there a better roadster out there for around 7 grand?

Ive been told the MX 5 is hard to beat in the second hand market

I'm a little confused as to why you're asking for a roadster, when you want one with a roof?
Surely that's a coupe?
Assuming you want one with a roof, you could look at buying an MX with a hardtop. To save weight it's possible to remove the softop section completely. You'd be left with a 1.8 very well balanced coupe probably around 1050kg in weight.
However why not buy an 200SX (lot more power, but more weight), far better practicality, or an MR2 which are pretty lush?

Or better still, build a fisher fury with a 200sx engine and box..

There are plenty around as the earlier ones turn to cornflakes quickly and lots of FAF's cant handle the rear wheel drive in the wet..

:D

i love this about the forum, i am suprised someone hasnt said "omfg geta mondeo"
the guy has asked for KIT CARS not supras mx5's etc etc

LOL Yeah, and all the experts saying you cant use them day to day and you cant get good quality when they havent built one or been to a decent KC show and seen the variety on offer these days...

Easyrider brought up the MX5 :/

yeah I did but the fisher fury looks good.

Now you may all laugh at this...

Does it come with instructions etc... :o And I cant see a Hard top on the site.

This is what the hardtop looked like on my car:-

There are pictures of it off the car here:-

It does come with a build manual, but if you have some mechanical skills/experience it would not be very difficult to build without.

If you look on page 7 of the fisher price list http://www.fishersportscars.co.uk/fs_prices7.html

You will see the hardtop for £400. Personally I cannot see the point, and if you really want a roof fit the hood but I guess it is up to you!

A very good build diary of a track going Fury that a friend owns is here. This should give you an idea of what it is like to build.

I dont think you want a kit car tbh.

Dont get you?

I wont be building this alone if i decide to get one. When my dad retired he built a motorhome from scratch so a car would be easy I would have thought with his guidance.

How hard can it be?
If thats what your implying

I dont know I never fitted it! As far as I can tell it was held on with 6 bolts along the windscreen surround, and another 6 around the base of the rear. THe Targa panels were held on with over center catches so they could be removed easily.

I changed the roll bar for a taller one a while ago, and as a result the roof would not fit so I sold it.

Extremely.

In what way is it difficult? All the hard stuff is done for you. You buy the suspension, chassis, bodywork seats etc and then just bolt/glue it together.

I built a locost from scratch (as in cut the metal & welded it together for the chassis) and even that was not that difficult if you have a little mechanical apptitude.

TBH I prefer no roof but I would be paranoid someone would steal it

Nobody is going to steal it. It is too unusual. Just get a tonneau cover and you will be fine. I leave mine parked in all sorts of places and have never had a problem.
