Advice On Order Of Upgrades

Nvidia pips AMD right now when it comes to smoother-sailing with drivers. The driver issues don't affect everyone. Just a higher percentage than Nvidia users.

Performance-wise the 5700XT sits between the RTX 2070 and 2070 Super.

The 5700XT with best reviews/feedback (to my knowledge) are:

Any of these are great choices so would just choose based on current prices. My pick right now would be the Gigabyte Aorus with 4 year warranty if you register.

Any case, hold off till end of March for news on Nvidia Ampere cards. Then see what release date is being floated.

Yeah well I should have the funds to order everything around a week or so after GTC. I won't be waiting until the new line comes out but, who knows, current prices might fall.

Thanks for the advice again. Gives me more to think about.

Most welcome. :)

Quick question... If I wanted to upgrade to 4K gaming in the future with this build, how many components will need to be upgraded? I'm more than happy with 1440p for now but I was more just curious. Would I need to go 8 core CPU, 2080 graphics card (ignoring the new releases), update PSU and update motherboard?

Just the GPU.

The CPU usage actually goes down the higher up in resolution you go. Things become totally GPU-limited and less frames are sent to CPU to prepare. So if you encounter 100% CPU usage it won't be from playing at 4K but because of an especially CPU-demanding game which would also affect you at lower resolution.

Before going 4K, I would wait a few years for 4K 144Hz monitors to become more common, and by then there'll be better GPUs to run them. They are also very new and very expensive right now.

I never would have thought that with the CPU (I have very limited knowledge but trying to learn).

As for the monitor, 4k will not be for at the very least another 2 years. I'm more interested in 1440p. Ideally 34" ultra wide but it may mean dropping down to 60fps (which won't be awful by any stretch).

I was more thinking if I'd have to upgrade the MOBO, you've then got the hassle of transferring Windows licenses etc. I suppose in the grand scheme of things, that won't be a massive hassle when you're gaining a lot out of it.

Those are great air flow fans, especially for the front where there is no obstruction.

Cheaper, still good:

For Windows 10 Pro you need an 8GB minimum USB stick, then download the ISO from Microsoft to it. Use the ISO to install on the new system. Then surf for budget activation options. Watch some vids for ideas, Pauls Hardware etc.

The stock paste should be very good MX-4.

If I get the corsair 275JR airflow case (linked below), could I potentially get away with not needing to buy any more case fans and using the stock CPU cooler since it already has better airflow and 3 supplied 120mm fans? They're something I'd happily buy a month or two down the line but more to get me going? I won't be over clocking the CPU or anything, the only thing I'll be doing is upping the RAM speed in the Bios to make sure I get the 3600MHz advertised.

Same question but with the Nzxt H510?

Just thinking whether I could either save money or put some of that towards either a motherboard with WiFi, a 2070 super or even a Ryzen 7 3700x?

You can use the stock cooler in any decent case. The case fans won't improve its cooling ability as such. They'll just help a little bit. Same applies to using a better air cooler - good case airflow will help the cooler to achieve close to its maximum potential. But at the end of the day, you can't achieve the same results with a lesser cooler (unless you starved one case of airflow to equalise both systems).

Aorus now £370 - don't forget to register 4th yr warranty if you go that way .
Nice review. Coolest and silent . Ram and beam temps on average , coolest core
