Advice

i once had a problem with goods sold not properly described and complained to the seller, he basically told me to go away. So I send a letter quoting which but of the sale of goods act and the distance selling regulations had been broken and that I was gonna take him to court. hey presto, next day get my money.

you're right complaining is for wimps.

Well done to you for being assertive and taking action but now your just complaining about it and to be quite frank other peoples complaints are just boring to hear about.

I guess you're allowed to have an opinion. I myself find them very interesting to hear about. :D

They can be, if they are interesting, but mostly they are just trivial grumblings. Besides you wasn't even complaining in your first post, and if it wasn't so funny it would have been borderline patronising;

:)

I fell over the other day, so make sure you fasten your shoelaces before you walk anywhere.

I had too many pints at the pub last night, so make sure you don't drink too much.

I nearly got knocked down on the road last night, so remember to look left and right before you cross.

I put so much food in my mouth I nearly choked to death at the dinner table, so remember how much food your mouth can hold.

I nearly broke my leg leaving the house by the upstairs windows, so be careful leaving for work tomorrow and use the front door.

I advise not to leave chocolate easter eggs next to vapour phase change cooling compressors.. it results in liquification of said egg.
Would be an easier/lazier way to make hot chocolate though!

lol. The same could be said about anything from anywhere.

Besides, I find online reviews a bit naff really. You only ever hear the extremes. And mostly they are negative because something has gone wrong to that one person and I find people who complain tend to over exaggerate anyway and blow it well out of proportion like it is the end of their world or something. So instead of being a day late, they say it was 10 days late, instead of saying it took 45 seconds to get through, it took 45 minutes. Instead of saying a product was DOA, it ended up wrecking their marriage, their life and any faith they had in humanity, because it was just so critical. A desperately needed kidney I can understand being a a person being a bit miffed if things went wrong, but people act like they are about to die just because their latest gadget is taking too long to get to them... Or worse, it falls below their expectations.

You're SO right, taking peoples advice into account is such a stupid idea!

I would really advise anyone considering purchasing from an online company to check reviews of said company before you give them your money.

I do that, its common sense to do it. Any sites you have in mind?

My opinion being we all have something to bring to this discussion and what you should bring is silence my friend.

Oh please, your putting words in my mouth there.

And the advice the OP was giving was caveat emptor. Hardly earth shattering news. Hence all the tongue in cheek posts.

I'd advise looking to the left, then right, then left again before crossing a road in the UK.

Look right first. Then left. Then rights again.

Otherwise you're gonna get run over. ;)

Advice: When opening a can of spam make sure its not really a can of worms otherwise all hell will be let loose.

Maybe a tad, but taking advice from people who have had previous dealings is a good idea.

Oh please, were talking about caveat emptor.

You should always heed peoples warnings.

I disagree. Some people are just naturally more cautious than others and are too quick to dish out warnings. If we all listened to them we would never have ventured down from the tree's (because there were bad things down there).

Besides having "Caution: Hot Liquid" on the side of the vending cup of coffee doesn't make you any less likely to spill it on yourself.

If you are busy reading it, you are probably more likely to spill it

They should have one of those no-win no-fee companies telephone number on the bottom of the cup with a this way up arrow pointing downwards.

Explain what you mean. Buyer beware - "yes, ok, thanks for the heads up" would be my response.

I don't know if you've noticed but this topic is about buying from online retailers, several of which can be dodgy. Now it's all well and good when things go to plan but when they don't (eg DOA product) it's good to know the company will sort it out. How can you argue about this? I'm baffled!

Besides having "Caution: Hot Liquid" on the side of the vending cup of coffee doesn't make you any less likely to spill it on yourself.

Awful analogy! No relevance whatsoever! We-are-talking-about-placing-trust-in-a-retailer.
