And my sisters ASLEEP...NOOOOOOOOOOES

Can't really do a review until shes up  But first impressions...the sats...wow...there small & heavey, i was expecting much bigger. Build quality is excellent, standard leads are good quality aswell. Was easy to put together, took about 2-3mins (Not including the time trying to remove my old speaker system from the twisted pile of crap which some call cables behind my desk. :p ) At the moment i have them on a very, very, very low volume (putting ear next to the speaker jobby) and they still sound very clear and crisp and the base is still working nicely at low volumes. Can't wait to crank this up :D

Photos to come after i get up and tidy this room

I dont have a set but I have listened to a set of them and in fact helped to set them up for a fellow member here. They are good as far as PC speakers go but you must remember that due to the physics of it all, the speakers are just too small to handle lower frequencies properly at anything like listening volume and hence the sub is extensively used.

The problem is that it crosses over at a frequency where the sound is starting to become noticeably directional and so the correct placement of your sub becomes absolutely critical. In those photos you posted you have it on the floor - not a good location for it!

A compromise would be to move your PC a bit and have it next to the CD rack, turned in to face you when you are sat at the desk. You will get a much more defined stereo image that way and the whole thing will sound much tighter and less tiring to listen to :)

Im not sure if i can say where i got them from, because it could be classed as competition :p But as they have been mentioned on these forums before im gonna take a risk. I got them from superfi, as the order link on ocuk wasn't working for me :(

As for the sound...just....wow. I really can't believe how such tiny sats can deliever such powerful & clear sound. I was expecting the same old sound from a 2.1 system, but i can't stress enough how different they sound! They really do sound like bookshelf speakers, apart from they lack that slight "loud powerful feel" at low volumes. Im currently using the sub on bass level 3 (max), its very bassie but doesn't drown out the clear crisp sound from the sats. Unlike most 2.1 systems this sounds better CRANKED. I have to admit it sounds a bit weak at low volumes. But thats not a problem because i either play music loud, or use headphones. The sats are tiny, but very heavey, so sit very nicely on a desk.

I dunno what to say, im very, very impressed. They sound awesome. I listen to a wide range of music, and it plays them all brilliantly, and theres parts in songs which the speakers pick up that i never heard before. :D

I was under the impression, subwoofers have non directional sound, so placement is irrelevant? Saying that though, i tried the sub on the desk and i found it became extremely weak sounding, and there was hardly any thump there.

EDIT: Also the photo of the sub is misleading, its actually not that smaller than my PC case :D So putting it on my desk really isn't an option.

Anyway, highly recommend this if your looking for a speaker system and don't want to go the bookshelf/amplifer route.

Best £100 spent ever.

Not audibly directional below certain frequencies yes.

If you put frequencies where directionality is an issue through a sub, they dont magically lose their directionality.

Like I said, I have heard these speakers and to my ears at least (as one of those people trying hard to resist audiophile status) the placement of that sub unit made a huge difference to the sound. Midrange being significantly improved as the most noticeable change.

If you arent prepared to compromise the SQ so as to be able to look in through the window of your PC case, then thats fine - but if you do that £100 will be even better value :)

I have the Aego 5 surround sound system and for the size of it the sound produced is fantastic. AE seem to know their stuff when it comes to getting big sound out of small boxes.

DRZ is 100% but then he would be as he is studying acoustics at degree level

Unless you have a sub which only reproduces very low freqs you will still have some sound appearing to come from the sub, as those sats need help with the midrange freqs then unless you place the sub sensibly you will have effectively 3 point sources rather then one, which is not desireable.

Your right the sub won't thump as much on the desk but then its probably producing a more actuate repsesentation because you haven't got it in an enclosed space with three walls effecting it.

If to your ear sloppy, excessive and distorted bass sounds good, which is the the kind of sound that car stereo enthusiasts love, then leave is where its at, if you actually want to hear what the artist who recorded the music was trying to produce, then you might want to centralise the sub and try puting in on something heavy like a marble slab or small paving slab.

Matblack, as ever, hits the nail on the head.

What you are hearing as weakness is accuracy. If you are listening at 80ish dB, look at an 80 phon equal loudness contour. Look at just how much extra power you are going to need to get it to all sound about the same.

By putting it inside what is essentially a bigger box you are reinforcing certain frequencies (pushing up the contour) but losing accuracy. You are introducing "wobble" which may sound "good" but is actually rubbish and quite far from what the producer/studio engineers wanted you to hear.

For a demonstration of this put on something with really driven bass - something like Daft Punk - Around the World. Play through the intro and at 32 seconds in you get a really kicking bassline. If you cant hear an incision-like start to every single change in frequency then you simply do not have it set up correctly. My guess is that with the sub under the desk its all sort of going to flow into a godawful mush.

When I set up a set of these speakers I used an even less forgiving track - Infected Mushroom - Noon. They coped fine with the sub in a central location but the less said about the SQ when elsewhere the better ;)

alexisonfire listen to these guys :) I also have the Aego M's and when I bought them I thought they were fantastic. I was lucky enough to put the sub on top of my PC so it produced nice bass. Someone suggested I put it on the floor so I did, rubbish bass. It was so flat and dull. I also had the speakers on each side of my monitor. I was impressed by this at the time. DRZ popped round and sorted things out. He put each speaker on each side of me and suggested I moved the sub into the center on my window ledge.

Thats my current setup. Everything fits nicely. The bass is lovely. I really do suggest you try something like this.

Mine have arrived today (How quick was delivery, well done OcUk!). Anyway, I am blown away by the audio quality of these things! The amount of sound they pump out is amazing and the quality cannot be doubted  ! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED SPEAKERS! I will post some pictures and a review later on :)

(sorry about quality, want to compress them for 56k users). I am very pleased with these speakers, VERY pleased. Thank you OcUk for the amazing delivery (orderd 6:00pm Tuesday, arrived 2:30pm Wednesday!). As previously mentioned these speakers are highly recommended from me, GO FOR THEM! :p

Ideally you want it in between your left and right speakers. Putting it under the TFT might be a good place but I don't think it would quite fit. Do you have any room behind the blinds? Its probably best you don't test them to hear the difference. I did and it annoyed me that it sounded so much better so I was forced to move the sub :)
