Aego M's Arrived Today

Ideally you want it in between your left and right speakers. Putting it under the TFT might be a good place but I don't think it would quite fit. Do you have any room behind the blinds? Its probably best you don't test them to hear the difference. I did and it annoyed me that it sounded so much better so I was forced to move the sub :)

I will try under the TFT, but since it is a SM913N the viewing angles are poor so ill have to tilt it down. Thanks for the advice, Ill report back

I need some help with regards to "digital output" on my soundcard. When I first plugged in my Aegos to the 3.5" jack labelled "digital" There was a lot of loud hissing and if you listened closey you could hear the XP Music. When I try and plug it into the analoge output (4th plug from the right) its fine? I have tried selecting "Output digital only" in the Creative speaker settings yet it still outputs from the analoge socket and even with "output digital only" the digital port still hisses badly.

While I can pick the brains of the speaker placement dudes, I have the following setup at uni:

I know this isn't ideal as the speakers are slightly different distances from my head, and the one on the right is higher up. However, it sounds pretty good to me. Is there anything I can obviously do short of making the right channel hover about a foot off the desk to mirror the left one?

Turn the right channel upside down

TBH thats about the best placement you can hope for given the layout :)

or move some of the DVDs to the shelf above and put your speaker there, looks like it would just fit, make or buy a small stand on top of your base unit to lift the other this will also help keep the speaker magnets away from your HDDs

and before anyone says, i,m not obsessed with magnets causing interference :p

It doesn't look it it cause of the angle, but putting it on the shelf more or less sticks it in front of my face. I have the ball joint wall mounts, but I don't think they'd take too kindly to me bolting them to the wall :)

Ok I have an update. I have moved the bass to be between the two satelites and the sound does sound a lot better. Here are some higher quality, less blury ( :p ) pics for you to enjoy.

But why miss out on the style, get a nice Black and white Marble slab, dont just think
back garden dirty old Flag. If you get a nice piece of marble with some nice feet / spikes
you would not belive the difference in SQ.

Got my black set of Aego M from OCUK this morning. They were a little cheaper elsewhere but I'd never have known about them had it not been for this forum. :)

Some general impressions in case anyone is interested:

The speakers are around the size of soft drink cans and the sub, a mini PC tower. They're all reassuringly weighty with a roughly textured coating. The fabric on the front feels like it could be punctured quite easily, though. I love the clean design. The black version still includes white/grey cables, this isn't necessarily a bad thing as I'm sure they blend in better with most desks and listening areas.

Sound quality is great for all types of music and games I've tested. They're not going to blow your socks off if you've heard decent speakers or headphones in the past but bang for buck is definitely high. I would like to know exactly what the bass slider switch [1-3] is altering, however. I've got the sub laying horizontaly to the left of my monitor, angled towards me. The volume can go louder than you'd ever require!

Summary

+ Good sound quality. Clear and punchy.
+ Bass slider switch on the back of the sub to quickly tweak the sound to your liking.
+ Good selection of bundled cables
+ No hiss or hum in silence, even with volume knob maxed. (I guess the sound source also plays a part in this.)
+ Clean and stylish design

- No headphone output
- Manual consists of one simple diagram

hmm, these look intresting. I'm looking for somthing to replace my logetech 5300 speakers while im in university, 5.1 is to much for me then, and the sub is absolutly massive (it makes an ideal footrest though :D). How big is the sub in particular (the logetech one I have is by my best estimates maybe, 12, by 12, by 14 inches) and how would they sound to my current speakers?

i forgot how small the sats are:s i have enough problems with direction frequencies running bookshelf speakers and a 12" sub. Sat's would drive me barmy lol
