After a sporty a car around £2k... what not to get? What to get :D

What do they rev to?

Also LOL at that interior.

8500 I think ? Certain it was over 8k. I think they only come on cam at 6200 rpm

Edit - fun begins at 6200, select the next sound track at 8250 rpm.

Lotus seemed to do a bit of a tweak to the ecu, so maybe a bit of tuning potential once sure of reliability.... But considering you didn't rev it... Probably irrelevant

Although buying a car you clearly know bugger all about (turbo? lmao) isn't always the best idea in the world, I hope out works out for you. A billion times better than a diesel Vectra, and the interior doesn't make me want to kill myself just by looking at photos, so that's a good thing. :D

Certainly a lot better than a vectra.

As i've said before i believe the 190 pre 2003 can have the same oval bore issues so just keep the oil checked at least on a weekly basis. As said by others you need to give it death for it to feel like it's moving, decent enough engine on the boil though.

A bit odd that it has the standard wheels on, i'm guessing the early one's were just the same trim level as a 140 with the uprated engine though.

From what ive learned so far I dont think the 190 has the oil starvation issue.
My engine number 2ZZ-GE is not on the Toyota data sheet regarding the issue & if regularly serviced they may have sorted it anyway?
I read where one Celica owner went through 2x 140 engines then popped a 2ZZ-GE in to solve the problem, but is now complaining about the gear ratios not being suited to the vvtli.

Oil starvation is a consequence not the issue, with any pre facelift 1 or 2zz I would ensure to check the levels quite frequently. The 2zz block is very similar to the 1zz, bore and stroke slightly different iirc

i sold this for 1900

Nice car. I had a lowly 140 which was OK (a 2003 so no engine problems on those) but really found it a bit bland to drive, looked great though. But the cheap ST24 I replaced it with was more fun.....

I would have got an MX5 or mr2, (can't understand why decent handling rwd + mid-engine cars are considered 'girly')

Is there any extra cost from insuring an import

I don't know if it is an import. The sales guy said no but I'm lucky my insurance is a bit cheap anyway: grp8 mondeo = 300, grp16 celica = 393.
It was a lack of rust proofing I was more concerned about if it's an import.

How can you find if it's an import? The reg doc & hpi report say nothing about an import. I did notice it red-lined at 8200 & some EU markets it was 7800 I think. Does anyone have one & can confirm that?

Still waiting for the call to go pick it up :(
Hope there was no hassle passing the MOT.

Im getting concerned now as to if its an import, as it seems to have unusual spec: as in no rear spoiler & the non T-Sport wheels or pre facelift?
From the information ive managed gather from other websites I'm fairly certain its the facelift as the seats are all leather & its called a T-Sport on the reg doc etc.
There is no mention of import on the reg doc from what I remember or my HPI report & the garage showed me its HPI report on their PC which showed its previous colour was grey. Below is what it shows on my completed HPI report.

ColourBLUE
Number of colour changes1
Last colour change date18-Jun-2009
Year manufactured2002
Current keeper acquired on01-May-2008
Date of first registration in the UK08-Nov-2002

Its obviously never been grey as theres blue everywhere, darn confusing

If a Celica is an import, how will that affect the Insurance or anything else?

If the details are correct on the HPI then that suggests it's not an import, both made and registered in 2002.

Colour change may just have been an error that was corrected after the previous owner HPI'd and bought it as it's a boggo celica colour isn't it? - check under the bonnet, under boot carpets etc for signs of grey if you're not sure.

Yeah I find it real confusing as it dont have a rear spoiler unlike every other T-Sport ive seen, but it shows T-Sport in the reg doc & it passed the HPI including the VIN etc.

Here are the HPI results:
