After a sporty a car around £2k... what not to get? What to get :D

My 306Gti has been so much fun to drive. Get a good one and you cant go wrong. Brilliant little motor.

The fact is that so many people who have had one cannot bare to part with them myself included.
And its better than most of the cars mentioned.
Hyundia coupe really?
Get a 306. Refresh the suspension a bit and whack a hybrid arb in there.
Drive down a b road.
Here begins a long relationship :p
It is so nice to get in the car as i only get to drive it now and again these days.
I actually look forward to the drive home just as much as going home after a month..... and its not even that nice a road its all motorway.

Well i have had a gti6 for 2-3 years and literally rang its neck everyday and all ive replaced is serviceable parts and 1 coil pack which cost me 15 qiid.
Ive put 26k on it in this time :s
Oh and the week after i bought it i had the cat split and it was just welded up for 20 quid in a garage
Its flown through 2 mots since

The only other money i have spent i have decided to do so myself and it hasmt been 100% necessary.
For example every component of the suspension has a new and uprated counterpart in my room waiting to be fitted.
Also seeing as they are galvanised there isnt a spot of rust on it.
Mine is a 1999 model

Providing that you change the oil every 6k like the book says so.
And you change the cambelt every 30k
The engine is pretty bombproof.
Hense why lots of folks have 270hp supercharged ones with standard internals that have engins with 120k on them with 30k as a sc version
Also one of the lads on the owners club has one on 300k that has never had a single engine component replaced and never been opened

Im not saying there arent issues. But they are usually very easy to fix as they are simple to work on. And will be either just wear and tear like a wishbone bush or engine mount
Or will be something like a sensor for the engine not working etc.

Worth mentioning those with 450hp have standard gearboxes too...

Peugeot 406 Coupe?

Well if your throwing that in the mix then I'm going to suggest the Ford Cougar (2.5 V6)

Looks much better than the 406 IMO, and well, its a V6. I await someone to say 'just get a mondeo' instead :p

BTW, im watching this thread with great interest. I'm also in exactly the same boat as the OP but I wont hijack :)

Corrado is nice but sounds like trouble, even if I could find one.
I used to like the Prelude/MR2 but they're a bit old now I think. Plus every lass ive asked about an MR2 about has pulled a face like they have a bad image? Or is it the lack of rear seats lol.
306 GTI-6, after a bad experience with the Saxo VTS im very weary of French cars + they look dated, which is a shame as lots of people rave about them too. Pity the engine is not in something newer?

The Hyundai Coupe 2.7 appears to be tempting as they seem quite cheap for the year & look ok but are they cheaper for a reason? I'll have to some reading up on them.
I'm reading lots of bad engine stories about the Celica, kinda a shame as they look the business inside & out.

Hmm Civic type R maybe a bit out of my price but I may be able fix that if they're really worth it...
Whats with that acidic looking gear-stick sticking out the dashboard? They're well prized though, hmmm

Im sorry but cougars look positively mundane and the engine is lazy.
The 406 coupe is still a nice looking car with a better interior 4pot brembos and the engine is way more lively.

Also girls dont even know what mr2 is most of the time. And if they do its the girly mk3

Honest question.
Do you want a car that is genuinely good or just a all show no substance car?
Because you list contains both a civic type r and a hyundai coupe which is a bit meh... and mismatchdd
One is like a little dog that keeps peeing on your settee and running around like a lunatic.
The other is a boring lazy midly podgy labrador
