after some LAN games

Hey there,

I'm in need of a few LAN games but I'm all out of ideas unfortunately,

basically we're after an RTS, RPG and FPS.

RTS requirements are, gather resources in your base (not capture points) and not too heavy on the spec required.

FPS requirements are, ability to co-op together through the game. It's a bit niche since there are so many awesome fps's out there but one that allows co-op through either story or scenarios would be awesome. Again not too spec requirement.

RPG wise, we're after a good co-op RPG, can be hack n slash or not. Though one thing that can be annoyed is set quest lines (ala Diablo 2) where if one guy gets ahead he'll be on Act 2 whilst the rest are still in Act 1 for example. So if anyone knows a game that is forgiving on this front but great fun to play together then that'd be great.

oh also, is GTA: San Andreas LANable? (If so any tips on where to go? Thanks)

Any other top LAN games you guys can recommend would be appreciated as well! Thanks.

for CnC, we've kinda done them all to death. They're awesome games I'll admit but are there any other options out there? Thanks for the feedback thus far, didn't realise Doom3 was co-op, how many co-op?

Aoe2 will always be a winner. Cod4 works over lan with one cd-key also. Operation Flashpoint or Armed Assault and then you can make your own missions to work through in coop as well. Warcraft 3 and Starcraft will hold your attention for a while without taxing systems either.

On a different note maybe freelancer, someone sets up a dedicated server on their pc and everyone joins that for some space based skull-duggery, if all else fails i wonder if sims works over network...

Graw1-2 allows co-op through network, was playing it yesterday. Might advise not using their voip if you're concidering it, definitely use something else.

You can always get warcraft3 and one of the bazillion custom maps out there. Diablo2 is a good hack n slash coop rpg that can keep you entertained for a long long time.

UT2004

Requires a pretty low end spec by todays standards and has an Assault MP mode where you have to complete certain tasks. Great on Lan.

i've done UT2004 (and UT3) with my bro over lan, great fun. we were going to do sup comm but never got round to it. isn't there a HL2 co-op mod? we were trying some of the new source games (tf2, hl2 deathmatch etc) but we couldn't (easily if at all) get any bots in the game, means it's a bit rubbish with just the 2 of you!

Ahhh yeh, Forgot about the HL2 mods.

Theres a Golden Eye Mod for HL2 which is very good. Played that at i30, Loads of fun.

I know it doesn't come under any of your requested game types but at our last lan the most popular game was flatout 2 - 8 player destruction derby is a great laugh after a beer or two.

its the bread and butter of most of my LANs
Warcraft 3 for the RTS
the GRAW games aren't bad

see OP again I made an edit. Freelancer sounds interesting.

the best space fight sim/shooter EVER one of my favourite games of all time

Used to play a lot of Delta Force over LAN with my manager, with only two in a huge map it would end up being an epic sniper fight with maybe one kill per 30 minutes

.

This definately calls for Starcraft, possibly TA as well.
The granddaddy of all co-op FPS' has to be the Sven-Coop mod for HL1.

How about the newly-fixed (ish) AvP Gold? Amazing game and there's a mod for it to enable you to play the single player in co-op mode.
