AHCI Mode - help?

Its strange that using the purple ones fix the problem lol. My friend has no problems on his DS4 using the intel ones. Those speeds are fine with that hdd, bsod is a bit strange though - maybe check event viewer to try and find out what caused the bsod? Might have been another driver or perhaps just the crappy gigabyte one ;)

Well it seems that BSOD was a 1 off - hasnt happened since.

And 60mb/s is ok? The primary one is SATA2 and thought it woudl be quicker.

Yup 60 is fine, SATA II just increases the maximum to 300Mb/s, SATA I being 150Mbs - no single SATA hard drive can reach anywhere near it (only burst speed perhaps)! I think the new WD 500gb drives can get somewhere in the 70's though.

Nope - i decided to forget about the AHCI.

I now have 3 HDDs, 1 which i thought was dead, wasnt :)

I now have 2 SATA 2 and 1 SATA HDDs.

I got 2 of the HDDs in the Gigabyte controller and are being seen as SATA but the Intel ones arnt. Are there any intel sata drivers i can install via XP to get them working properly?

Both my sata 500gb seagates on my Intel ICH5R connectors (only have 2 of them on my old motherboard) read as "RAID 1 volume" (I named it RAID 1) and my 300gb seagate on my promise controller says <drive serial no.> SCSI disk device.
