So I'm going to be building my dad a pc in the coming weeks it's a surprise and I want to bling it out. My first thought was to go for an aio cooler as they do look really nice and I have a spectre pro fan coming to pop on it. I don't think I will bother overclocking it for him so performance isn't too big of a concern.

I'm just wondering if I'm going to be introducing a possible problem for him down the line if it fails I'm hundreds of miles away and although he's pretty good with pc stuff not sure he'd be confident fitting a new cooler.

I guess question is how likely is it to go kaput? And would you recommend it in this scenario? I'm going to be putting a custom acrylic window on it to show off the internals so want it to look as sleek as possible.

I had two refurb units fail on me and went for a full custom loop...
I know others have had years of good use out of them...

Tbh if I was in your situation (although my dad is useless with this stuff) I'd be going for a good looking air cooler :)

I've been running my Antec h2o 920 for over 2yrs, my computer is on 24/7.

No problems at all.

Brand new unit, not a refurb.

I'm running a Corsair H105 and have been since October last year, I've never had a problem with it I have to admit. I think it's generally a case of hearing about the problems people of had and not the many thousand of happy customers who's AIO's have worked perfectly.

£30 refurbed Corsair H100, had for about a year, not the slightest hiccup.

However, if you're not going to OC the rig or have any concerns, a decent air cooler will be just about as good.
