Aion Online?

I'm loving it (more than I ever thought I would when I first entered beta), bringing back some great Daoc memories for me.

Wont be for everyone though, some people wont like the "asian" appearance and sounds, some people wont like the "oldschool" style gameplay, some people wont like the "forced" pvp.

But for me..its been one of the best MMO plays I have had since 2002 and Daoc

Its linear, full of instances and dont expect to quest or hang with mates apart from when you first start off together.

I just dont like linear MMO's that take you by the hand.

That's a shame, another over hyped piece of junk I guess. Glad I didn't get excited by it.

I was considering returning to WoW, but that's just as bad.

Wow, talk about easily influenced. At least wait for a few opinions or go read the main thread.

Well, I got overhyped with AoC and WAR, and look how they turned out to be, so it makes me think why should Aion be any different. I forgot to add Darkfall to the list also... That was just awful.

So you skip your first reply which was extremely positive, and also echo's my work mates opinions and just agree with the first negative post.

Seems like you wanted to hate it!

Full of instances? Have you played the game? Grouping is very much encouraged by the lack of quests at some levels snd there are lots that require them.

But...I hang with mates all the time. Its hardly "full" of instances either..unless you are counting zones as instances?

Surely by that logic you might as well quit MMOs altogether as every MMO ever released in the future will be awful?

The question is, what kind of MMO do you like. Do you like the old school MMO type, like EQ, Daoc and to a degree UO. In which case you may well like Aion. Or do you like the newer style of MMO, like LoTRO and WoW. In which case you most likely wont like Aion.

I did actually quit MMO's for that reason. I guess I'll just have to wait for an Aion trial to be released before I decide.

To be honest, as much as I rate Aion, if I was you I would probably skip it. In my experience negativity can be a self fulfilling prophecy. If someone is expecting something to be bad then generally they will subconciously highlight upon the bad things and neglect the positive things and ultimately end up disappointed. Probably best to save yourself the hassle and disappointment.

I started playing when it was released, my mates are all on different levels now so we dont group much. I gave it a chance and stopped playing last weekend out of boredom.

The game is like the rest, AoC, WoW, EQ, Warhammer the list goes on...
If i was forced to choose one it would be AoC, but then i wouldnt play any of the above.

And yea, i said instances instead of zones. Although im sure it was named instances first, then wow came along and changed it :P

Im not saying its a crap game, it certainly has a place in the market for that style of gamer. :p

The fact you are all different levels is nothing to do with the game though is it. Its purely that you've all played differing amounts of time.

It is similar to the others but has enough differences to make it stand out a little in my opinion.

Have just cancelled my subs... Aion just does not have the "throw a sickie from work play me play me" that FFXI & WOW had although all 3 are very diff games. finding it more of chore to play then pleasure. Just not for me roll on FFX14

The game forces you to level on as there is nothing else to do apart from that.

Maybe ive just be spoilt with UO and Eve Online, where in those games theres more to it than just getting to level X.

Just my view, but these linear MMOs dont have the same longevity.

It`s a great MMO but if you only like PVE then I dont think you would like it but the PVP is great , worth checking out

Pretty sure they were always called zones, certainly a decade ago people referred to the zones in EQ as zones , and instances as instances :)

Not being able to pvp early on makes it pretty boring. I'm just sticking with it until I get to he Abyss and see if its worth the boredom. Quests are pretty "cut&paste"..go kill 7 of these baddies and take their feet so I can make a soup. Don't even bother reading most of them now. PVE is a bit too easy imo. Don't need to group unless you're killing elites. Mobs/players at higher levels than you are made artificially difficult with a flat rate %resistance to all spells or attacks. Randomness doesn't really add to the difficulty as much as it does the tedium imo.

The pvp I have done so far tho was fun. Just a shame I can't do more of it yet. Gonna just keep grinding when I can be bothered until I get to the Abyss and do some more pvp. Rifts don't open often enough yet, or they're not the right type for my level (23 atm)

First mmo of its type since I played DaoC, and I can see some of the similarities. I actually quit that game too due to the level grinding. Never played wow so can't really compare it to that. Kinda liked WAR for a bit it it didn't really have much longevity for me
