I will be buying a MK3 fiesta on saturday afternoon, and was wondering about these air filters, as it says fitting one will give you more speed & performance, is this true, and if so is it worth the £70 for it?

No, about as much use as a chocolate fireguard.

What engine will this car have out of interest?

Not entirely true. Some engines can be rather suffocated at stock and respond decently to breathing mods. The gains will be tiny but not useless.

A re-usable air filter is an added bonus if you plan to keep the car for a while and saves re-buying a new OEM one for every service.

It's no use on a MK3 Fiesta and at £70 you can buy about 10 normal filters which will last the life of the car, the filter oil you need every 15k will also set you can a few pennies.

Depending on the engine you can buy better mods for the money.

on the 2.0 ST fiesta, there was a dyno test in a mag where a cone filter actually gained 7-8bhp, but on any other car, i doubt there will be measurable gains at all.

leave it how it is

I paid 50 dollars for my iceman cold air intake...I don't think I could ever justify paying more than that for an aluminum/plastic tube and filter.

The 2.0 ST intake is very restrictive and a good intake system can show an improvement. A panel filter on a MK3 Fiesta will make no difference.

You wont notice any difference apart from the feeling of regret that you paid £70 for one that you didnt have before. Certain cars seem to react quite well to some basic breathing mods, thinking Fiesta ST for one. I got a bargain on ebay not so long back, new Green panel filter for £16. Wouldnt pay the retail for it though.

I used to have an Mr2 Turbo. Removing the standard airbox and fitting a mushroom cone K&N gave me + 95bhp, increased my 1/4 mile to 11.4 and got me a recording contract with Simon Cowell. True story.

Totally pointless mod on a Fiesta. Put that £70 towards your next car.

here hear

Don't take this the wrong way but buy one with a better engine in the first place.

NA Tuning is expensive and offers very few gains vs the same amount spent on a turbo car.

We only had a limited budget, and thats the best we could come up with for the price, but now I have seen a lot of modding sites, and wondering what you can buy/do to get speed boosts out of it? As far as I can remember the guy we are buying it off of has had the engine tuned already

Speed boost?? You are buying a fiesta 1.4. An air filter might make it sound a bit fruitier, but thats about it.

Anything you could do to make it noticably faster would cost a considerable amount, and as such you would better off buying a better car in the first place :D

It'll be a 1.4 CVH is which isn't the best engine for tuning. If it was the 1.6 CVH you'd be laughing as it's a very tunable engine. The two engines don't share many parts and I don't think many people bothered with the 1.4, it's normally 1.6 + Turbo :D

If you want it to go fast take it to an airfield

Then load it on a plane and drop it out when you are about 50000ft up

:p
