Air fryer recommendations?

Philips HD9220 currently in Tesco for £69.99, just bought one. RRP 149.99 according to the label. Tesco web site says 99.99, but my local has it for the above price, quite chuffed.

I got mine on impulse. I was on Amazon and noticed that the digital one had been slashed massively from £200 to £80. I snapped it up and am so glad I did.

We have a tefal Actifry, I'm the only one that uses it now, everyone else went back to the gasring deep fat fryer. We threw the electric DFF away when we got the Actifry.

I do chips from frozen or potato which I cut and shape by knife. I typically cut a potato in half or thirds depending on the size then lay the pieces on it's flat edge and cut it into chips, I get about 4 chips per piece. I suppose because of the larger size I cut chips is why I don't end up with mash by paddle. I also cook them dry, Tefal have this little spoon you use to add the right amount of oil but I just let them cook in their own juices. Oil does make a difference in the result though.

Sausages is another thing I do in the Actifry, again with no oil. Sausages eject plenty of fat to cook themselves in. Very messy to clean afterwards but amazing tasting sausages. This is fresh sausages too, I hate frozen.

Bread or battered chicken nuggets/dippers frozen or fresh. Not done chicken steaks though, I still do those in the oven.

Meatballs is something I've been looking to put into the Actifry.. I keep seeing them at ASDA like £2 for 20 or something, I'll have to get some next week now and try it out ;)

The biggest problem with the Actifry is that we only have 1 because I don't like mixing different foods so I won't put sausages AND chips in at the same time, all that fat from sausages getting on the chips.. euurgghhh.

Finally did some meatballs last Saturday. I did them for 20 minutes no added oil. They were cooked all the way through and tasted great but they were a bit overdone on the outside.

Sadly our Actifry broke an hour ago while cooking some sausages. Was happily cooking away then I heard a noise from that direction then a struggling grinding noise, the paddle doesn't move anymore :(

Just looking at these so bumping these.

We borrowed a tefal Actifry from my mother in law and have been quite impressed. Would prefer to spend less than £100 though and with today Amazon £10 off deal it seems like a good time to do so.

For the people with the drawer style, do you find them big enough? We tend to cook chips for 4 people which the tefal handles with ease but i'm not sure the drawer types ones look big enough.

Have been looking at either the Phillips HD9220, the Duronic one or this Salter one

I have the digital Phillips and have done chicken breast with nandos marinade in it with no problems other than needing a decent scrub out after.

did the marinade not drip onto the bottom then get burnt then smoke like mad?

i have the large phillips airfryer and it's great for baking and chips, roast potatoes, hash browns, etc.

anything that will drip will cause issues though unless it's mainly oil that is dripping. i tried bacon once and it set off all the smoke alarms and was a pain to clean.

french fries are the best. and i use a oil sprayer to spray them a tiny bit whilst cooking and keep shuffling them every couple of minutes.

Seems the case. I tried fried chicken in our borrowed actifryer and it was a disaster. Ended up dumping them in a pan of oil and frying properly. The pieces just merged into one big blob!

air fryer is the better of the IMO. It's more like a traditional oven.

The actifryer moves the food around mushing it together.

My Philips air fryer continues to get used almost every day.

Had it about 1.5yrs now. It certainly does encourage a lot of chip eating mind.

I also discovered that I like to cook some chips, chop up some pastrami or salt beef, dump that ontop of the chips in the frier, and then dump grated cheese on that. 1 more minute in the frier and I have a pile of cheesey chips to die for :D
