**Alan Wake Review*****

Finished it last night too, absolutely top game. Might be a tad too short but truly great story telling.
Definitely my game of the year vote so far.
 
Oh wow. I totally forgot about this game and just stumbled across this thread, shocked to see that it's been released :p

Looks like people are enjoying this so I may have to give it a shot.
 
Finished it on Nightmare now, and found all the Manuscript, last two pages I was missing were an absolute swine to find! I spent ages back tracking!

Now i've jut got to find 1 more chest (29/30), 10 more Thermos (90/100), 5 more can pyramids (7/12), and 4 more signs (21/25)...

Today I was torn between buying Alan Wake or Red Dead Redemption but this won me over in the end.

I've not passed chapter one yet with only an hour or two of play time but it's pretty damn good! I want to play it some more but I only have an hour or so before I go to sleep so don't want to get drawn into the game only for me to have to turn it off again quickly.

I jumped straight into hard mode for a proper survival horror experience and can't say I've been challenged by low ammo or battery counts so far. As I said, I've not been playing for very long though. It's also not been as scary as I thought it was going to be and certainly much less scary than I found Dead Space to be. Although this, I suppose, is a good thing as I'm a bit of a wuss when it comes to scary games. It's more of a thriller than a horror game imo.

I just can't wait until I have a spare afternoon/evening to really get stuck into it.
 
I wouldn't say Alan Wake is scary at all, as you say it's more of a mystery/thriller than a horror.

And you do right starting on Hard, Normal mode is ridiculously easy (I just use it for searching for collectables).

Nightmare mode is by far the best mode to play the game in, its just a shame they don't let you choose that from the start. :(
 
Just finished it tonight all in all think im a bit dissapointed, some things it does well like the actual story, the enviroment, and the atmosphere. I didnt enjoy the gun play much and the animation is pretty average at best at times (alans running). It seemed to be full off cliches that ive seen in many games like this but it was still a pretty good game, but like I said i feel it dissapointed me somewhat. No where near my top 5 games this year maybe top 10, but that may change by the year end, still i think its worth a play, rental seems the best way. BTW i got it for £28 pre owned and i can trade it for £31 :D
 
Picked this up today for £24.99. Haven't read much into it, so it will be a new experience for me. One of those games that its an immediate sell after I think, but hey, for this price it should be good.
 
played this til 4am in the morning! didn't realise how late it was. just wanted to keep on playing to see what was going to happen. I am on episode 6 which i am guessing is the last chapter.

I the rocknroll bit was cool and i lol'd @ christmas lights :).

nice game and story for sure. will they be continuing the story with dlc?

Yeah i'm pretty sure their going to release dlc soon, think their might be some already actually

completed this last night, really enjoyable game, fantastic narrative. Wasn't really sure about the ending though
 
This short clip has been released by Remedy, no ones knows what it means. Wether its pointing to the DLC or Alan Wake 2...who knows!

Found this on another forum, so not sure if anyone here knows what it is?

yea same just completed it this morning. yea bit unsure about the ending and what happened to Alan etc. Guess the dlc's will clear this up?
 
Finally maxed this out last night, 1000G are belong to me :D

That last Thermos was a right sween!
 
Picked this up on Saturday instead of RDR and boy am I regretting it.
I played it for a few hours. Got to Chapter 3. I found myself running through identical forests killing pack after pack of generic axe-wielding maniacs; ammo was sparse - I kept running out and there's no melee attack(?!); there was very little in the way of plot development and I didn't find any of the main characters even remotely likable; all in all a bit of a shambles.
I think I might stick this on the MM unless someone can assure me it gets better. I was hoping for something fahrenheit-esque and instead got a mediocre 3rd-person shooter. :(

Well, one thing I can assure you on is that it's a better game than RDR. :)
 
How are you managing to run out of ammo? I'm playing it on hard and it's only happened once so far, and I'm pretty sure it was in a section where you were supposed to run instead of attack.

Learn2Aim tbh ;)
 
well i rented this today.. at 8 i think
ummmm i just got off lol
i think im somewhere at the end of chapter three, has been good thus far, i have been 100% glued to the game, just like JUST ONE MORE CHAPTER, JUST WANT THE THERMOS ACHIEVEMENT. this went on for about an hour, is there much more left? im getting to mirror peak, how far through percentage wise am i do you think?

also i love the twilight zone copies

edit: with the ammo thing i realised (even though the game tells you what to do)
that i was shooting people prior to completly lighting them up, basically DONT SHOOT until the darkness is gone you will waste like 5x more ammo
 
I know I'm going to be distraught when I get to the end and only have 98/100 Coffee flasks :p I've tried to get them all but on the driving sections there's no way I'm wandering around the forest just for a stupid achievement :D
