**Alan Wake Review*****

Just got to the rock concert part on level 4...screen crashes error 74.

Perfect timing or what, this game just hotting up and after it was gonna trade for Red dead redemption.

These 360s really are made of balsa, it's only my 4th to go teets up.

Just ordered a repair kit to try and fix myself, too impatient to wait for a proper fix.

The bit at the beginning when your wife's in the house and you're trying to save her is proper gripping, I was like "noooooooooooooooo" and then the ravens flew out of the chimney and I was like "uh oh!!"

The screen tearing...

This is quite annoying, I don't know how it ever gets through testing.

Few games have had that problem recently (Darksiders was another), but they've all had it patched out pretty quickly. So hopefully the same will happen for AW.

Well I took a punt and am loving it so far. Reminds me a lot of the first two Silent Hills. If you have surround sound and a big tv its a must have purchase!! :D

Anyone else get a DLC voucher with thier copy?, apparently we are supposed to, even in the regular versions, it supposed to give you first DLC for free once it's released.

Yep came with mine, make sure you get one from the shop you bought it from. It may be a extra DLC skin or it could be 5 levels of awsomeness... but likely a skin lol.

Just completed it, I wanted to wait until later when it was dark but couldn't wait that long, fantastic game, best I've played this year, it's very rare that I get drawn into stories in games but with this one it kept me intrigued all the way through, some people say the last episode wasn't that great but I actually quite enjoyed, it can't wait for extra episodes to be released, I have a pretty good idea of the direction they will probably go with them.

Half way through a Nightmare difficulty run now, trying to get all those extra pages :D

Personally I find this game gets better the higher the difficulty, it really changes how you do things. You find yourself running and dodging between light sources, rather than standing your ground and taking on the Taken.

And ammo runs out far quicker with enemies taking a fair few more shots to down.

Great fun :D

Finished this on Saturday evening, have to say, the ending was poo (at least I thought so anyway).

Much as I have kept banging on about it, this game will always be drawn into a comparison with Heavy Rain, and unfortunately for Alan Wake, it’s nowhere in the same league as Heavy Rain - AW offers a smidge more gameplay than HR, but it just doesn’t draw you into the story in the same way, and I was left not feeling anything at all for the characters or their plight.

When I reached the end of AW I did honestly feel like I ended on a low, by comparison, when I finished HR, I felt like I had just been part of an epic game, but, AW did have moments where I really did enjoy it and looked forward to playing it again; so at least some of AW’s story gripped me.

If I had to rate it, I would probably go for 7/10 maybe 7.5 at a push.

Time to trade in against RDR :D

Right, just back from trading this in, I decided not to be too nice to the staff and kept my unused add-on content code :D

So, anyone want a code for DLC?

I preferred the characters in Alan Wake, didn't see the fuss about the cast of Heavy Rain.

By characters I mean Barry, not like you see much else of any others except Alan. The FBI agent was a good character to hate and the sheriff was alright.

Shelby was badass, pretty much the only memorable character from Heavy Rain really. He was the cream of the crop.

Up to chapter 6 now. Possibly game of the year so far for me to be honest!

I agree with the person who said it was like Mafia, putting the story first.

I don't know if its always been there but under the downloadable content theres vague details of the first two DLC episodes. Both 800 points each (or the first one free with new copies).

I'm on chapter 5 now, only got this game yesterday and had a late night session last night - awesome game in the dark with headphones on.
I doubt I'll be keeping it though, it's destined to be traded in against Red dead.
Great game so far though.

Finished this last night. Fantastic. What a great game. Like others said it really goes get pretty intense towards the end.

I've actually enjoyed this more that Read Dead Redemption. One of my fave games for a while in fact.

Looking forward to the DLC.
