Alarm system?

Thanks Simon will check out security Film is there any particular brand to look for?

FYI

AJAX all installed and setup, apart from external alarm. Surprisingly easy to install. Just need to tweak the settings for each device. :)

If you need any help with tweaks just shout up. No specific safety film, I think that they are all pretty similar

I’m back. Am I right in thinking that I can purchase an external Poe camera, connect it to a powered switch and then connect this to AJAX? If so any cameras suggestions for front and rear cameras with lights please.

You can add any camera with an RTSP feed into the Ajax app. It will also natively accept Dahua and EzViz. You can also use Hik if you set them up with the EzViz app rather than the HikConnect app. Cameras actually need a survey before you can decide what is the correct camera for the location and application. I never recommend camera models without seeing their location first. But that is just me.

Ajax in the U.K. will ship with a SIM which is around £2pm you just need to set up an account to activate it. If you want to PM me a floor plan I’ll give you a design for what I would install. Hand drawing will be fine. Feel free to ask any questions, if I can’t answer them, I can normally get an answer from one of the Ajax Team in Kiev within 24hours.
I am being quoted £55 a year by my installer for the SIM.

I've been looking at a new alarm system and some cameras and been quoted for the following:

Ajax Hub 2 Alarm Systems
Ajax Alarm Installation Including: 1 x Hub2, 2 x MotionCam (Entrance Hall & Living Room), 3 x MotionProtect (Study, Garage, Landing), 3 x DoorProtect (Front Door, Back Door, Conservatory Door), 1 x KeyPad, 1 x StreetSiren External Sounder, 1 x HomeSiren Internal Sounder. Decommission & Remove Existing Alarm, Programming, Setup and Installation, Remote Assistance Included.

£881.19

HikVision HD IP CCTV
HikVision CCTV System Installation Including, 2 x Darkfighter Low Light Turret IP Cameras, 4 Channel NVR (Networked Video Recorder), 1TB HDD, PoE Switch To Loft, Power to Loft Via Airing Cupboard, Junction Boxes, Cabling & Sundries, Programming, User Setup & Remote Health Monitoring Included.
£773.38

Does that sort of pricing look reasonable? I have no clue on what is reasonable for it.

I had the Ajax system installed recently after reading good things about it on here, I paid £695 for Hub 2, 2x MotionCam, 2x DoorProtect, 1x Internal and 1x StreetSiren. Not the cheapest I don't think but was the nearest installer to me and have to say very happy with the system, will be adding some more things to it in the near future for the garage and possibly outside, but also thinking about the backup SIM but not sure its worth £5pm.

Been looking at cameras as well and been quoted £595 for 2x Dahua Starlight Full Colour Cameras with 1TB HDD Recorder for £595, take it these would work with the Ajax?

That sounds about right, he is putting a small handling and admin fee on the cost of the sim.

HikVision HD IP CCTV

Hard to know on the CCTV without knowing models and how they intend to install. That could be cheap or it could be very expensive, hard to know. If it is cameras fitted too eaves, NVR in the loft (we call them Sparky installs, or a bodge for short) using cheap NVR and cameras it could be expensive. If its current gen IP cameras installed at the correct heights and a 76xx NVR it maybe cheap. Hope that helps

They will integrate into the Ap, yes.

Thanks for this.

Not sure what the cameras will be other than what's listed. Will ask. What would be the correct heights? The discussed positions were above the conservatory roof, facing towards the backdoor and side access into the garden (below the level of the upstairs windows), and a camera either in the eaves of the garage looking out to the front of the house, or a similar height to the one at the back, facing out to the driveway.

The switch would be in the loft to power the cameras but the existing networking cables would be utilised to have the NVR in a downstairs cupboard where my existing networking switch is. Will ask about the NVR

Hi, I'm looking at installing a new alarm and will probably be going for Ajax. All the comments look to suggest this system is better than a Pyronix system. We live in the Derbyshire dales and the internet is very poor. We live on an arable farm and are quite remote so I was thinking about installing 2 master blasters in the courtyard as no one will hear a normal bell box. Is it possible to link master blasters to an Ajax system?

Yes, you can just use Ajax Relays to trip the Master Blasters. I install both Pyronix and Ajax and Ajax, imho are a much better alarm.

Thanks so much for your help thus far.

So got the info now. It's a DS-7604NI-K1/4P NVR so I assume that's good?

Together with two
DS-2CD2346G2-I(U)
4 MP AcuSense Powered-by-DarkFighter Fixed Turret Network Cameras

With install, switch, cabling the quote for the above was £776.

Hoping it's a good deal/reasonable?

If the NVR comes with a HDD, he is charging you around £300 - £350 for labour. For that price he should be providing 12 months support and he should ensure that your phones / tablets are properly configured with Hik-Connect and he has shown you how it all works.

Hi yes that's all included, HDD is in there plus set up and support. Thanks so much

Thanks SimonR, you've been a big help. Should have added that he is also removing the existing wired alarm system for me and taking off some fake security cameras the pervious owner put up.

(agree with the signature too)

Anyone with any concerns with Ajax Alarms (they are made in the Ukraine) they had contingency and have moved the majority of their manufacturing to Poland. Their staff are all safe. Ajax servers are hosted on AWS and are not in the Ukraine. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask.

@SimonR Hi mate - I've been looking into a new alarm system, namely Texecom and Pyronix initially and was leaning to Pyronix... But reading up more on Ajax this seems the best of the bunch in terms of feature set and longevity. Looking at rough trade pricing, seems an Ajax quote would likely come out twice the price or more as a Pyronix system though. :o

Any rough ideas on cost with labour to install an Ajax system? Think I'd be looking at an external and internal sounder presumably, 1x door protect, 5x motion PIRs (one being the garage which has an electric roller door, unsure if a better sensor for this?), key pad, hub and 4 tags. Seems if I went Ajax I'd be better future proofing and nicer features going for the Plus models of keypad and hub, along with maybe the motion cams? (albeit cams are twice price of standard PIRs)

Thanks in advance :D

Edit: Also is there any issue with me purchasing an Ajax kit and installing myself? No limitations for not being a 'approved installer'?

@Bazzards have you had any issues going DIY?

I'm looking to get an Ajax alarm for a business. I'm probably going to leave my old alarm in place also. I also have Hikvision CCTV (latest M series NVR and colourvue 2 way audio 8mp cameras).

I have a few question about the Ajax.

I will probably have the Ajax auto set based on opening hours. Can it be set to auto arm if no motion is detected for a set period?
I know the latest hubs have 4g backup. Can any sim be used or does it ned to be Ajax supplied.
How does it alert? Does it phone, SMS or is it via an app notification, or maybe all?
Where does the hub need to be placed? I have a ring at home that lives under the TV. Is Ajax similar?
Can it be linked to hikvision?
Are the motion sensors with pictures sent via BB of 4G?
I believe there is now an NVR available. What does this do over just the hub?
This may seem a bit daft but some of my ring motion sensors are just placed on shelves. Do Ajax motion sensors need to be wall mounted, or can I just place them on a high up shelf?

I installed the Ring and CCTV myself, so am hoping the Ajax will be just as easy. Is it an easy system to set up?

TBH if the Ajax is decent I may swap out the ring for one at home.
