Alcohol and bodybuilding?

A nutritionist that thinks alcohol has an abundance of health benefits?

I think somebody is confusing alcohol with the stuff that in alcoholic drinks like beer and wine such as vitamins, tannins, etc.

Alcohol itself does reduce blood pressure, but the blood pressure problem has probably occurred due to a sedentary lifestyle, anyway.

I used to get wasted pretty much every weekend, go out clubbing, go to festivals on 3 day benders and still managed to stay in good shape. Can't say I ever noticed it being detrimental to my training, quite the opposite in some cases. Always seemed to set PB's the day after with a hangover... I think must have been due to the excess calories?? Always came out of the gym feeling fresh as a daisy after sweating 10l of fluid of me within the space of 2 hours :D

Though saying that I didn't use gear, if I did then I doubt I would have drank alcohol aswell.

Just don't drink, you'll be better off. Infact, maybe you'd enjoy it more, I enjoy the occasional pint of Guinness, but if I drank pints of the stuff I'd not enjoy it anymore and I'd burn a huge hole in my pocket.

Last time I got drunk, It was more than one night through the course of 2 weeks, it lead to an awful month, I basically lost a month of normal life and enjoyment, I was ill with some odd cold for a week, and 2 weeks had proper bad flu symptoms, and the week and probably weeks after I was recovering getting my health and performance back up and I blame it on the booze.

The physiological advantages of having fun and pulling a hot girl will undoubtedly be more beneficial than the disadvantages of getting drunk.

Sure it isn't healthy but you have to have fun or what's the point, also if you make your Regime too much of a chore you aren't going to stick with it.

As you don't drink often I would stop being a pansy tbh and get it down yer.

Probably why you are a pansy weakling currently. :):p

I know plenty of body builders who get smashed out there brains on 10 pints on the weekends. Just drink straight vodey, or with diet or soda. You could drink beer aswell but that will be high in calories. Enless you're training for some kind of stupid fake tan/thong contest there is really no harm in having a few drinks.

As stated above repeatedly, a few drinks every so often would be fine if not beneficial in some ways. The issue comes when the hangover appears, if you're like me you are wiped out for a day but you just need to learn your limits so the hangover is minimal.

You mean like a bodybuilding 'contest'... Strange I thought bodybuilding was exactly what we were talking about :p

That is a good point though, all of my posts have been from a bodybuilding point of view, purely aesthetically getting wasted on beer consistently is bad, I don't think anyone can deny that. But strength for me is sometimes up if anything.

Yes but bodybuilding doesn't always have to be competitive (outside the gym). Most people on here aren't training for contests.
