Alcohol consumption

I'm going to try and stay in this weekend, i can clear £150 easily going out drinking. I never touch spirits though and have started to drink bitter, which is does less harm than lager, a lot less actually heh.

Problem is when the missus goes "what shall we do tonight?". Could go out for a meal sure, but not every dam night, watching DVD's midweek gets old fast, that leaves one thing..go out.

Maybe you need a life re-assesment if your only passtimes are either watching dvd's or drinking ;)

... Dont mean that to sound too harsh. But its a stark realisation when you realise that alcohol is used to basically fill the gaps in a life that you cant creatively find something to do with yourself.

Only time I'll drink alone is before I go out to meet my mates, or maybe crack open a bottle before my GF arrives if I'm cooking something.

I used to do it a bit when I was younger if my parents were out and I had the house to myself. But I would usually be playing online games with my mates. Now I have my own plaece I never do it.

As to the watching DVD vs drink scenario above.....find some new hobbies, seriously.

Might be a bit sad for the social drinkers, but for myself I have a few drinks to relax after a hard week of work when I can't be bothered with getting ready to go out again, organising an evening out with friends who are otherwise busy or dealing with the hastle of the home journey with taxis and drunken violence.

I can see where afraser is coming from on this. I very rarely goto the pub nowadays and it's only for special occasions.

My alcohol intake for the week is usually half a bottle of wine on a Fri & Sat night or maybe nothing on Friday and full bottle on a Sat. Other than that I very rarely drink on a school night

My girlfriend at the moment says i drink too much as i have put on half a stone in the last year,

You do. You don't need to drink every night a week, why do you do that? Try only drinking when you go out. Six cans every night is crazy, you'll ballooon.

I got plenty of hobbies, never bored, i could fill my time infinitely. How many of these can i do with a moaning gf? lol.

How many bloke hobbies and past times can you do with your missues, i'd love to know because i'm stumped; if she wants to spend time with me,etc, the options are limited to what we'll 'both' enjoy.

So, thats having a meal, going out somewhere, watching a DVD cuddled up at home, havign a meal out somewhere..i'm out of ideas already lol. Me? There isn't enough hours in the day for me.

Normally only drink with friends, but on pay day I normally buy a few beers and play computer games and relax, not needed but I like to do it.

Also well done to the guy who compared alcohol with cocaine

After reading the thread about drinking in your lunch hour it got me thinking just how many people think they drink too much?

I know i do, but i don't smoke and try to keep healthy,

I have around 6 500ml-750ml cans/bottles of lager each night after work

I know this is excessive but it isn't as if i do it to hide away, I love my life and i just enjoy a drink after i finish work, it doesn't get me drunk

So although i know it sounds a lot, it does sound reasonable to me after working all day.

Anyone else drink every night after work but doesn't feel like it affects their life?

Mate - Hats off for being honest and saying exactly what you drink. I know a lot of people don't like to talk about it and that's when you should start getting worried. I used to drink that amount, and I put on a lot of weight. I've cut that right back now, although I did go to a beer festival last night  (only had 4 pints though)

I was probably drinking that much on holiday, but I do think that is too much in general. I try not to have any during most week night unless it's a bottle with food. For me it's better that I don't have any at all as I just get silly and will have about 4 or 5, so I save it till the weekends. Has saved me a bit of money as well....:)

Coffee is just as bad as alcohol, who will admit here they are addicted to it, i could point out a couple in my office right now who wouldn't even know they are :)

Yeah I know some people who are, they just drink and drink and drink it all the time. It's like chain coffee-ing. BIG mugs of it. One even has seven sugars in hers.

Working all day is no excuse to be drinking so much, you say you try too keep healthy but alcohol contains as much calories as fat. Bit contrary. If you wana keep drinking that much, exercise more otherwise you'll just keep piling on the pounds

You sure I thought the alcohol had 0 calories?

How many calories does Smirnoff have?

Alcohol is sugar in essence, just fermented with <ingredient>, hence mildly poisonous. But it's interesting to see the supposed calorie content of a pint, which in my case at weekends would far surpass the daily guildline for someone twice my size, yet my weight never budges an inch, interesting.

Lol, coffee with 7 sugars, i'd actually have a double rum over that, it would actually be MUCH more healthy and wouldn't make be diabetic.

Its a little known fact that the moment you cross the threshold of your house, your liver becomes 10 times as resistant to alcohol and you become by default, immune to any criticism of your drinking regularity or quantities by the nature of the fact you were not in the house when you did it.

(yes, im being ironical)

That's because you have to take it in context of what you've eaten/drunk that day and week.

For instance, when I was losing weight I would eat about 1400 calories a day and eat and drink what I liked on Friday and Saturday nights. I would still lose 2-3 pounds every week.

Now I have stablised, so I eat roughly 1800 calories a day, and I eat and drink what I like three nights a week. My weight hardly fluctuates at all.
