Alcohol consumption

That's because you have to take it in context of what you've eaten/drunk that day and week.

For instance, when I was losing weight I would eat about 1400 calories a day and eat and drink what I liked on Friday and Saturday nights. I would still lose 2-3 pounds every week.

Now I have stablised, so I eat roughly 1800 calories a day, and I eat and drink what I like three nights a week. My weight hardly fluctuates at all.

Why can't all people who wanna lose weight take that simple method. It's all stupid diets, excercise bikes and celery. I'm so condescending to people who moan they can't lose weight, it's so hard. A little research and minor knowledge of how their own body works would solve that problem.

Because not everyone is as fortunate to have it so simple. I, for example, am very sensitive to the amount of carbs I take in. If I take in more than ~60g's of carbs a day, I will balloon irrespective of how many calories I take. As such, I have to monitor carbs, rather than calories.

Well exactly my point. You did your research into how your body works and eat accordingly. People who don't have no excuse, except if medical.

I know my metabolism, even though i have few meals a day and never breakfast, is very high. In order to gain weight, my food consumption, primarily protein must be obscenely high, in the order of 6 high protein meals a day.

In my younger years (up to age 30) i thought nothing of 5-6 pints or a bottle or two of wine a night during the week and then double that fri/sat/sun. Now if i have a bottle of wine or 4 tins on a night i've got a hangover which affects my work so i don't bother during the week now, even on fri/sat night now i would rather just enjoy a couple of pints or glasses of wine and wake up nice and fresh on a sat/sun morning without the hangover and an extra few hours to enjoy life! Am i getting old? :) Of course there is the odd occasion when a good **** up is enjoyable too though!

I go through 4 bottles of Red Wine a week and enjoy it very much.

Accounts to roughly half a bottle a night. Thats 2 glasses really especially as the glass I have is a 250ml one. Never filled to the top mind!! Always the first is drunk with food so a lot of the alcohol is soaked up by the food. Never light headed unless its a decent one and its a cheeky glass while cooking ;)

Every now and again I will have a beer in the local with the lads but never too much. Maybe 2-3 pints.

I don't understand people who sit in the house drinking. Surely it's a bit sad sitting there alone drinking can after can, there's much better (and healthier) ways to relax.

I hardly drink at all nowadays, it just doesn't bother me but when I do it's always with mates, on the town or down the pub, it's a social thing where you're having a laugh amongst friends, not sitting alone infront of Eastenders.

It depends on what you're doing and why. Someone who sits in their comfy home listening to the wind wailing outside and enjoying some good whisky or beer or whatever they fancy is one thing. Someone who needs to pour cupfuls of liquor, mugfuls of wine or pints of beer/cider down their neck every night is something else.

Your mates say your a fanny and/or under the thumb :D

Until recently I was drinking anything between 5 - 8 cans of premium strength lager a night (5%) and even more at the weekend.

I don't know what possessed me, before you know it it becomes a habit.

Main reasons for cutting down -

Affecting my relationship, my Job and my health and it was making me more depressed than I was to begin with.

I still have a drink, but I've found a bit of respect for myself by not getting wasted at every opportunity.

I've realised yes life might be stressful and work might suck but it isn't worth putting yourself in a early grave over.

I do feel silly about it all, but I'm really pleased I've managed to sort myself out.

I only drink when I go out, never during the week. Usually have 4 cans of Strongbow/Carling. Don't need anymore than that, cause I'm a pretty small guy, and that gets me wasted.

I have been known to drink two bottles of wine a day but I’m on the wagon again and hope never to go back to this level again. ;)

Life will always be stressful, with or without alcohol. The problems will still be there after the eight cans!

But you won't remember them!

Don't tell him lies! Alcohol is proven to remove stress, pain, chavs and stubborn stains much better than any normal detergent!

:confused:Alcohol is a carbohydrate.

Not really. Sugar is turned to alcohol during the fermentation process. Some beers i.e. Holsten pils have no carbs because all the sugar has turned to alcohol. Alcohol is 7kcal per gram and carbohydrate (sugar) is 4kcal per gram iirc. The problem with calories from alcohol is their limited use. From what i remember neither the muscles or the brain can use alcohol for energy so instead you pile on the weight as fat.

Miss...MISS! He's using someone elses work as his own miss, i saw Google pass him a note under the table!

:)

That doesn't make sense could you explain further please?

Until last weekend I hadn't touched alcohol since new year. I usually operate a policy of no alcohol during a week night and only drink for "special occasions". Going to the pub with mates isn't a "special occasion" so doesn't qualify for alcohol consumption. Since new year I'd been using the "no alcohol till my birthday" policy and guess what I was doing last weekend? ;)

While I'm fully aware that others don't share my views on alcohol I do sometimes think people give in to peer pressure too easily (either directly or indirectly due to social situations) and that not having a drink can show a strength of character ;)

exactly :)

I like to open a beer when cooking dinner. drink it with dinner, possibly another one whilst a bit of browsing, reading, drumming, whatever. Then sleep. Dont get much time in the evenings so I make it count.

tonight however I have 2 pubs to hit and a band meeting. So looks like 3-4 tonight. probably quiet tomorrow though....we will see.
