Alcohol consumption

When all your mates are out and drunk, making talking to them extremely annoying and unfunny, you may aswell stay in, which is what you'll be doing for most weekend nights, except if it's a book reading night.

considering i was T total in my teen years i was drinking more and more a short time ago (age 29). i would get an 8 pack of guinness for the week end, then a deal came on in the local store for 10, then 15 and then 2 lots of 8 (16). i was then drinking all thru the week including a few at lunch at work.

This with going less and less to the gym meant i started to put weight on, 13 stone isnt large, but it felt funny feeling my belly wobble for the first time in my life so i give up for a whole month at a time, drink some for a few weeks and then have a break again. its saved me some money too doing this and the total breaks make it harder to drink lots when i do drink afterwards.

i know lots who drink twice this much and to top it off the nurse at work said i was 'normal' when drinking 16 cans a week!!!

I drink when I want, but not normally every night. Frequently finish work/uni and have 1-4 pints. Its a nice way to unwind with some friends.

I don't understand people who sit in the house drinking.
Indeed! I have beer in the fridge and wine in the rack, but the though never even crosses my mind to touch it unless there are people visiting. The OP? Way way too much - but it's his body he's screwing up.

Miss...MISS! He's using someone elses work as his own miss, i saw Google pass him a note under the table!

:)

lol
No thats probably the only thing i remember from university- the rest of the time i was too drunk!

As for the brain iirc it can only use glucose for cellular respiration. Muscle can use glucose, glycogen and even fat but not alcohol for respiration.

There is a serious danger of mass narcolepsy on here if i write any more. I'm starting to bore myself.

I have just bought 4 cans of Strongbow Super for £4. Each one is 7.5% and hopefully will take me a step closer to starting my essay. Perhaps i have problems. :o

There is speculation as to whether or not you are able to actually absorb all the energy given to you by alcoholic drinks due to the alcoholic content. This is probably why uber- high calorie drinks (like beer, vodka coke, etc) do not make us all turn into fatties.

Ahhhh...I always wondered why you never tend to see obese alcoholics.

The ones that are very overweight may be attributable to all the crap they eat with it (Chips, crisps, nuts, etc), and the fact you still do absorb a proportion of the calories, and it differs person to person.

The fact most heavy alcohol drinkers are also sedetary doesn't help.

Go read some articles on it before you start being a smartarse.

At no point was I trying to be a smartarse. I was just putting in my two pence to the discussion.

I was serious. I have never seen an obese alcoholic. Around us they are all relatively thin!

I have around 6 500ml-750ml cans/bottles of lager each night after work it doesn't get me drunk

Anyone else drink every night after work but doesn't feel like it affects their life?

You have problems.
Six a night is way excessive and you don't realise the slippery slope you're on.
I have a Level 2 in Drugs Awareness and did voluntary work at a drop in centre so I have a little idea of what I'm talking about.
I am in no way an expert but the first sentence above is a good indicator.
I can remember one alcoholic telling me "I'm not an alcoholic, I can have 15 pints and it doesn't get me drunk".
Theres the BIG clue mate.

usually once or a twice a week, one weekday and one weekend

weekday - i have max 2 ciders
weekend - average about 3/4 ciders and maybe a shot or 2

unfortunately, i drink about 4 times a week and get quite drunk. I know it's quite a lot, but it's only at uni and every holiday i have (ie. a month over easter, a month over xmas and 12 weeks over summer) i drink a very small amount in comparison. I only drink when i go out and never have an urge to sit at home and just drink. I think if i started getting the urge to drink whilst at home on my own, i'd be a bit scared! Non of my family are big drinkers, but the way i see it, after uni, i'm not going to drink much at all (ie. only on saturdays), so i'm sure another year of this sort of drinking won't kill me...(famous last words ;))

I know it may sound a bit rich coming from me, but i think the OP is drinking too much. 6 beers a night is a lot.

I think i drink a little too much, but i'm not a binge drinker, i drink 2-3 cans of carling or fosters every night, maybe 4 or 5 on my night off, after a split shift sweating in the kitchen, it's how i wind down after it, ideally i'd like to cut right down but i enjoy it too much hehe, i think i'm still in control though, i never get drunk, i don't like it.

I drink maybe 1 a week or fortnight.

However, sometimes they are big ones unfortunately. I now and then have a thing when the more ruined I get, the stronger the drinks I buy (eg: quad whiskeys, Guinness + 2 jagermeisters in etc) :/ bad idea.

I also go out about a quarter of the time driving and not drinking at all, so I can manage to enjoy myself without the alcohol and not be tempted when surrounded by those drinking.
