youre feeling down -> drink
got a problem -> drink
you want to have a good time -> drink
socialise with friends -> drink
bored -> drink
want to boast about something -> how much youve drank

why?! i dont understand it - its not a clever thing to do and has so many disadvanges/problems associated with doing it...
- you'll get addicted if done over a long period of time
- it'll damage your internal organs over time
- it doesnt solve your problems.. it may make you forget but they'll still be there in the morning along with the hangover
- £££!

I don't know about anybody else, but when I'm drinking I always feel fantastic. I'm happy and everything is good. I don't know what's up with the nlokes who get punchy when they're drinking. I know that's not a very good reason to consume such a drug, but it works for me. :p

I think if these are your reasons for drinking, then yes, you might have problems. But what is wrong with a bit of a tipple every so often?

Every wednesday me and a mate head to the local for a few beers. The main reason is that is the only night we have free so it's good for a natter and having a laugh. Also the barmaid is rather tasty ;)

Because if you feel happier when you're drunk than when you're sober you have two choices, get drunk, or find something that makes you happy while sober. If you can't find anything then that just leaves drink.

See how you feel when your 25 :p

because it works at all of those things. you could just as easily say "why go out in a car? it could crash and you might die"

let's stop doing everything that could potentially harm us, and see how fun our day is.

youre feeling down -> drink -> feel up
got a problem -> drink -> problem goes away
you want to have a good time -> drink -> good time is had
bored -> drink -> boredom relieved

*NB. These outcomes are not necessarily the opinions of all OcUK non drinking members.

I only drink in two cases;

1. If I'm feeling like I want to chill out whilst I do some reading, writing, play music or watch a movie etc.

2. To simply enhance me, on a night out in town.

I never consciously "see how much" I can drink; that's just plain stupid in my honest opinion. To totally rule out alcohol for those reasons you listed, is a bit silly though. That list could apply to a lot of things.

I think what you're trying to say is, in some circumstances people take things too far. Alcohol is a good example of that, as so many people have the wrong attitude and approach to it.

Phil.

I don't drink even though EVERYONE my age does... because of that i find that the money i earn jut tends to pile up into large heaps of green.... I love being a non-alcoholic ^^

1 - I avoid drink if I'm feeling down. It is a depressant afterall.
2 - Drowning your problems are never the answer and they'll seem worse if you have to deal with them while you have a hang-over.
3 - If I drink I tend to have a good time - but I need don't drink to have a good time.
4 - See 3 but add friends.
5 - See 4
6 - That's just stupid. If I wanted to boast about something I would pick one of my many talents! :p

Each to their own etc, although I disagree with you (OP). The best nights out ive ever had are enhanced because of alcohol and although it doesnt get rid of problems it does make you forget about them for a while.

Made me think of one of my friends names on msn:
Alcohol, now theres a temporary solution

I agree with you about it being expensive, although IMO its a small price to pay for a good time.

Some people pay £100+ for a T-shirt, some people pay £100's for lenses for their cameras / graphics cards etc, some people pay lots for a good night out. Its just down to the person really.
