Some of the most comedy situations have been the result of alcohol for me, and my fishing village lifestyle would be pretty dull without it.
Phantom said:your example is flawed... crashing car is not inevitible no matter how much you drive. you may increase the probability of crashing (because you drive a lot) but its not to say you will have an accident. Compare that with drinking alcohol. if you drink a lot it WILL damage your liver and kidneys and you WILL die.
driving a car a lot may make you tired but drinking a lot makes you inebriated and you WILL lose your inhibitions, being unable focus and concentrate... ending up doing things you then later regret (sleeping with someone you didnt want to; being coersed easily)
SidewinderINC said:if you wanna talk about this some more feel free to email me, no recorded fatalities caused directly, but what about developed schizophrenia (sp) resulting in suicide?
sorry for a slight derailment.
Superdude said:Thats not what I was getting at. There have been no direct falilities from cannabis. You CANNO'T overdose on it. Drinking alcohol can lead to alcohol poisioning and death.
If you want to talk about related deaths:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/743878.stm
"But the report claims the real number of all deaths connected with alcohol misuse is closer to 33,000."
33,000!!!!
Somehow I don't see 33,000 stoners killing themselfs this year.
Pudney@work said:You can o/d on cannabis, maybe not fatally, but you can still o/d......
Superdude said:"It is generally considered to be impossible to achieve a lethal overdose by smoking cannabis. According to the Merck Index, 12th edition, the LD50, the lethal dose for 50% of rats tested by inhalation, is 42 milligrams per kilogram of body weight. That is equivalent of a 75 kg (165 lb) man ingesting all of the THC in 21 one-gram cigarettes of maximum-potency (15% THC) cannabis buds at once, assuming no THC was lost through burning or exhalation. For oral consumption, the LD50 for rats is 1270 mg/kg and 730 mg/kg for males and females, respectively, equivalent to the THC in about a pound of 15% THC cannabis. Only with intravenous administration — an unheard-of method of use — may such a level be even theoretically possible. [5]
There has only ever been one recorded verdict of fatal overdose due to cannabis. In January 2004, Lee Maisey of Pembrokeshire, Wales was found dead. The coroner's report stated "Death due to probable cannabis toxicity". It had been reported that Maisey smoked about six joints a day. Mr. Maisey's blood contained 130 nanograms per milliliter (ng/ml) of the THC metabolite THC-COOH."
Sorry if I'm annoying anyone. Its just my views on drug control in this country. I could talk about other drugs but I don't want to upset anyone. I fully respect others views on this matter.

got a problem -> drink
you want to have a good time -> drink
socialise with friends -> drink
bored -> drink
want to boast about something -> how much youve drank
why?! i dont understand it - its not a clever thing to do and has so many disadvanges/problems associated with doing it...
- you'll get addicted if done over a long period of time
- it'll damage your internal organs over time
- it doesnt solve your problems.. it may make you forget but they'll still be there in the morning along with the hangover
- £££!
Pudney@work said:Wow, you like focusing on the negatives.
you put a high strain on your internal organs having to break down and process the alcohol.. theyre not perfect, indestructable machines and they do get damaged when you consume a lot over a long period of time... its not a "maybe" - look at some medical studies for inequivical proof. this isnt like you "may" get cancer from smoking... but you WILL prevent your body from maximising its ability to absorb oxygen by filling your lungs with smoke..Pudney@work said:Although you are wrong. High alcohol consumption increases the chances of liver and kidney problems, it doesn't guarantee it. Even if you then do get problems it doesn't mean you will die of them(I'm assuming you meant that heavy drinkers will die of drink related issues as opposed to the fact that non drinkers are actually immortal).
you may not regret them but why do you need to get drunk in the first place?Pudney@work said:I've been heavily drunk before and lost my inhibitions, resulting in me doing things I'd never do when sober. However, to say that I now regret them is wrong as well, many of the things I'm actually still amused by today, and I far from regret them.
Pudney@work said:Also, moderate consumption of alcohol is beneficial, reducing the chances of heart attacks, strokes, reduces blood pressure and leads to a longer life.

Che said:The only way cannabis can directly kill you is by having a large amount of it dropped on top of you, you can't physically eat, plug or smoke enough of it to kill you.
