Aldi getting into Christmas spirits

IT'S NOVEMBER.
I too think it should be illegal to advertise christmas any more than a fortnight before, it rather ruins it.

I don't really buy "christmas" spirits per se, my bar is stocked year round with good spirits, I'm buying them same way I would any other time of the year.

Does it really matter if it's a good wine though?

Definitely not - this one won Observer wine of the week. It's seriously cheap for a good Ribero del Duero, which are usually around the £8+ mark in the UK - we've actually got some other RbD we bought last year at £8 which have gone up in price to £15/bottle.

My local Aldi has all this stuff in stock already (except the Bourbon which I'm tempted to try also) by the way.

If you're into red wine, grab a few bottles of "Minarete" Ribero del Duero - fantastic wine for £5.49

Went to Aldi last night. Picked up 3 bottles of this along with their Grand Cru champagne they had for £23

Was tempted by their 24yr old bottle of Whisky for £35 but i was already getting a bit carried away so controlled myself!

Try the champagne - I want to know what it's like!

Curious about the 8yr El Dorado rum - seems decent value so I might try it as my "Cuba Libre" rum.

Yeah i'm tempted to. I suggested to the wife that she put it in the fridge for tonight but apparently "we've drank too much champagne recently"

I need to consult my booze cupboard over the weekend and see what i'm running low on. I'm tempted by the whisky because i've never had a 24yr bottle before but i've only recently spent £60 on a bottle of whisky so it seems excessive. Plus my dad usually brings me a few bottles home when he's away in the far east and he's due home soon.

Hmm £20 for the 8yr rum, i think i'd rather spend the extra for the 15yr which i know was good. If its only going in a Cuba Libre though maybe its worth it. Have you ever considered Abuelo rum? Can be had for £18 and its excellent. As is Pampero.

The champagne they had before was decent - I emptied out a couple of stores for my wedding :p
Think I still have a couple of bottles kicking around and will check to see if it is the same (it won a few wine awards and the Which blind champagne taste test).

Had the champagne on Saturday night.

Proper not the best night really because both me and the wife have got colds so tastebuds were probably a bit dulled.

I wasn't impressed though. With it being £23 in Aldi i was expecting it to be much nicer but it just didn't seem to have much taste (again the cold might be a factor here), it was also not quite as dry as we tend to like it.

Overall i probably wouldnt buy it again. Their regular champagne would be a better choice for me i think.

Just trying a bottle of the Aldi Ribera Del Duero now. It's nothing special, not a lot of body to it but very drinkable. Very fruity and lots of blackcurrant flavour. You need something better than it for a Christmas Day wine though, it's a Friday night takeaway bottle.

15yr El Dorado Rum - Stunning, just stunning. Need more!!!
8yr Else Dorado - Nice rum, nowhere near the 15yr but works well for Dark and Stormies.
£10 Champagne - Very impressed for a tenner. Pink one was also very nice for £15.
