Anyone else ever pay a visit to this lot?

My wife and I go about once every 2 weeks. There are several items we like to stock up on. We find they are very good for "deli" type items.

We normally stock up on their Parmesan which is cheaper than anywhere else and we use it a lot. We also stock up on other cheeses. Chorizo is a another staple for us that we will often stock up on. They also do artichoke hearts at a good price.

We have bought fresh veg there previously but found it went off a lot quicker than veg bought elsewhere.

I did bump into someone I did business with their once. It was a supplier of mine. He asked me how I was and I replied "fine, but I would be much better if I had bumped into you at Waitrose"

We've found the opposite with their fruit 'n' veg and thought it lasted longer than Morrisons.

Good for the basics of a weekly shop and picking up the special promo items, but if you're after any fancy or unusual, then it means going elsewhere.

As above, good for deli meats, cheese and veg. The bread is no good though and their booze is overpriced.

Find their lemon and coriander couscous at 49p. Serious bargain.

We go there some times as well, but when we went to L'Escala Spain couple of weeks ago, there was a Lidl just 5 minutes drive from our villa! and that was in much better condition than most of the lidls I have been in london!
Better produce & cheap as well!

Fantastic for thier euro meats, some of thier packaged stuff is good too like the pan fried potatoes and au gratin. For the staples and freezer food they are great.

Also thought this with both lidl and aldi when i lived in Montpellier a few years back.

I use them mainly for chorizo, fruit and veg, cheese, crackers and some other bits and pieces. The fruit and veg does tend to go off quite quickly but I buy it for use within a few days.

It has a select few items that are cheap and excellent quality.

Unless you're one of those people that enjoys impressing people with how much your wine cost, Aldi and Lidl are really good for inexpensive wine.

I know most people with turn their nose up at it, but if you're one of those people who tends to go for horrible Blossom Hill/Jacobs Creek, you can definitely find better wine here for less than you'd pay for that.

Thing is they always stick Aldi on the labels.

I always make sure to decant any wine from Aldi if I am entertaining.

Yea, they only sell wine that is made specifically for Aldi is why I think. Some of the stuff isn't bad though, especially for the price.

I'm a proudly inexperienced wine drinker, so I tend to buy wine based on awards. Aldi wines seem to do alright in this area, which is what caught my eye. One of the ones we frequently buy is this one which has silver Decanter and bronze IWSC awards. Bearing in mind that we're talking about a £3.49 wine here, it's pretty decent stuff. It's cheaper than all of budget branded mass produced wine (Hardys etc), but it is actually very nice.
