ALDI

how come people dont get flamed for going to aldi? its worse than iceland! , i think maybe only nettos is worse

its not really, icelands full of frozen food garbage whereas aldi have some cracking offers on and as said some decent items. I think its pretty clever how unlike the conventional way of stocking pretty much everything a supermarket should have they pick out things that people will go out of their way to drop in for, like already mentioned their meats, cheeses and wines seem to be a big hit along with other random bargains they do in their `offers` book that gets posted through your letterbox, their bike gear and tools are big hits too!!

i was in our local aldi the other day for the first time in years and it was full of snobs! so aldi are obviously doing something right.

Last year, Lidl were selling a single malt whisky with their own branding which was infact 'proper' whisky. I can't remember the whisky (I'll ask my pal tomorrow) but it was something like a Macallan 10/Balvenie 12/Abourlour 10, just in a different bottle. They certainly have some bargains. Nothing wrong with shopping their at all - Especially for booze.
And, their cucumbers are bloody fantastic.

Aldi and Lidl are nothing like Iceland or Netto.

Agreed.

Lidl tbh, is an awful shop. Its impossible to get out of without buying something, or jumping over barriers.
Aldi is much better. Iceland is fine for frozen stuff, as that is exactly what it is meant for.
Netto is what happens when you drive a car bomb through aldi.

no its not

iceland sell complete rubbish for cheap prices

aldi sell many really nice things for cheap prices

nettos well ive only ever walked in once and i walked straight back out after seeing the state of the place.

Yes, Parmesan and Chorizo really nice and good values from there. Things like fennel, pineapples, aubergines, and the other (relatively few) fruit and veg they stock are good too. I'm quite partial to their stuffed vine leaves, too, even though they're clearly not really great quality and far too oily.

Oh, and they sometimes have frozen venison, which is really good cause it's not a common meat, but nice to have for certain dishes.

However, their Brie is abysmal, and their wine seems to be uniformly foul as well.

Basically a very handy place to have provided you've figured out which of their items are good quality and which are the kind of bargain basement rubbish people generally associated with them.

Edit: just seen Jolteh's wine recommendation. Will have to give that one a go, as had previously given up on wine from either Aldi or Lidl...
