Alex Salmond has been arrested

Wasn't it the former leader of the Conservatives up there that was a lesbian? I don't remember too much outrage or derision about her for that...

How VERY depressing, and yet nobody gives the philandering (but presumably heterosexual), unfaithful father of X children Boris Johnson a second thought.

The thing is that Johnson has been relatively open and honest about it; Sturgeon, it would appear, has not. Compare her with Elizabeth Taylor, for instance.

Anybody following this, it's not looking good so far for him. Not much of a leg to stand on and trying to make out that accusers weren't even at place where crimes apparently happened. Which is blatant lies.

That at least should be relatively easy to confirm as Salmond's presence or absence will have been recorded somewhere, either in his diary or in the press.

Some of the stuff that's coming out at his trial is laughable, clearly a bit of a dirty old pervert, but it's not exactly Weinstein levels of criminality. But the big news that has come out at the trial that will rock the government is the admission by one of the complainants that Salmond was basically put under curfew at Bute House where staff members were told to ensure woman weren't left alone with him. So his behaviour was clearly known about by others in government.

What's interesting, and although it's circumstantial, is that it seems that they were preparing to out Salmond themselves, it could well be that they did in fact leak it themselves going by a conversation. Though this is just my speculation.

I wonder if Sturgeon actually loathes him? It's obviously tinfoil hats, but if he's been like this with most of the women he's met in this position, then it seems so likely to me that Sturgeon has been a victim as well, being his 'protege' after all.

I hope a separate investigation can shed a light on that, as I don't think it's in the scope of this trial.

It seems unlikely. She knew about the allegations for months before they were finally reported, and was on the record saying this about him when she became leader: "The personal debt of gratitude I owe Alex is immeasurable. He has been my friend, mentor and colleague for more than 20 years. Quite simply, I would not have been able to do what I have in politics without his constant advice, guidance and support through all these years."

I'd suggest that, if she really was that close then she'd have known exactly what he was doing, and to who. She doesn't loathe him - she enabled him and protected him.

If that was true and ever proven, her position would surely be untenable

The Scottish parliament is investigating the former. The statement of support for Salmond is correct as quoted. The suggestion that she knew what he was doing is, as written, my suggestion.

wee jimmy krankie, i doubt it LOL

The talk of Sturgeon "allegedly" being a lesbian and that her husband, Peter Murell is also "allegedly" homosexual has been around for a long time. Apparently the press know who their "partners" are and that will be front page material as the Salmond trial unravels.

I think most would have no issue with their sexual preference but if true, it's another SNP lie/charade that will come out in the wash.

I wouldn't bet on the press ever reporting on it if they haven't already but if it were Boris or Trump it would be headline news for weeks/months until they stepped down.
