Alfa Romeo has revealed its production 4C sports car. The mid-engined, rear-drive coupe has been teased since its first unveil as a concept at the 2011 Geneva motor show. Two years later the showroom-spec car arrives, with few major visual changes.

Thanks in part to a carbonfibre chassis, the 4C is set to weigh less than 1000kg – making it lighter than a Fiat 500 Abarth. Alfa is claiming a 4kg/hp weight to power ratio, which means up to 250bhp.

The 4C uses a 1.7-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (the 4 in 4C representing the car’s cylinder count). In the Alfa Giulietta Cloverleaf, this engine produces 232bhp, though the 4C gets a 25kg-lighter version that’s cast aluminium rather than iron. It also gets direct injection and is linked to Alfa’s TCT twin-dry clutch transmission rather than a traditional manual gearbox. Steering-wheel paddle-shifters will still allow control of its six ratios, though..................... http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/288148/alfa_romeo_4c_official_pictures_and_news.html

By far the best looking car I've seen in a very long time.

Top of the "Want" list!

Those Alfa trademark alloys, positively the most disgusting wheels I've ever seen on a car. I literally have no idea how they look at those and think "yeah, these work"

Good to see they are putting this into production. I thought it had been canned?

I agree about the wheels.

Agreed great looking car... and at £50k firmly in similar category as the F Type

Doesn't 50k make it quite a bit cheaper than the F Type?

£8500 less assuming it comes to the UK at £50k and 100bhp down, but then the weight more than makes up for the deficite.

Also the 4C is a Coupe... wait for F Type Coupe prices shoudl narrow the gap.

Guess im the only one so far that likes them alloys. Biased though, look hugely similar to my old GTA.

(Which reminds me, need to change sig...)

£50,000 for a 4 cylinder turbo producing 232bhp. This is supposed to be a rival for the Cayman.

No thanks.

Nowhere does it say what the engine will produce in the 4C... just that the engine it is based on is 232bhp in the Giulietta.... Wikipedia as accurate as that is as a source, expects it to be around the 300bhp mark....

Putting it squarely back in Cayman (320bhp) territory... especially since it is aiming for 300kg less than a Cayman.

To be fair all a Cayman does for me is scream I can't afford a 911... not that I will ever afford or want either :)

A bit cheaper yes... but everyone is lumping the F Type in with the Cayman as well

Power "confirmed" at 237bhp with 266bhp version later:

Alfa have commented to maintain 4kg per bhp.

So its likely to be heavier than the concept with enough of a bump in power to manage that target, 300bhp is unlikely unless its really bloated.

F-Type needs the Coupe pricing for comparing against that set of competitors.

Surely the Elise S would be a clear rival?

I really do think £50k or anywhere near is just too much, they should aim for mid 30's imo.

Im pretty sure it was meant to be £30k when it was first unveiled, but as usual as time passes, reality sets in :)
