Alfa 4C

Did some of you miss the phrase carbon fibre chassis when saying it should be 35k?

No, but I'd rather see it be a success than a few sales to people daft enough to spend £50k on it.

I like Alfa's, but if they want something to be a success, it needs to add up. This so far doesnt (in my opinion)

It would be better they saved £15k and ditched the carbon fibre if thats the sole reason for it being too expensive.

People need to buy it, and Alfa needs some damn success

Still at least 2 cylinders short of a decent package.

But then it'd be a 6c. :D. Not gonna lie a 4 cylinder engine doesn't seem overly special to me but I'll reserve judgement until the whole package is tested.

not unless i had another 50K to fix it.

Hmmm someone still living in the past. Firstly you wouldn't need that as Alfas come with a pretty comprehensive 5 year warranty nowadays (well its 3+2 dependent on miles but doesn't matter in a car like this) and contrary to popular belief they don't all make like the comic sketch clown cars and disintegrate. Yeah they still don't have a reliability record like say ford but it shouldn't be a massive worry now.

As for the price I kind of expected it between 40-50k admittedly I was hoping for the lower end. Reason being is that otherwise it begins to encroach on the area where the new alfa spider/mx5 will sit whenever that materialises.

Personally I love it (but then I would). I'd take one in a heartbeat over say a TT rs and I quite like tts. Never gonna get one though unless my situation changes substantially :(

Would you really take one of these over a TTs? One will depreciate like a lead balloon compared to the other, and I'll bet my bottom dollar it's not the Audi :D

Well if you was buying with what return on it you would get in mind you'd buy neither and get a classic. I don't treat cars as an investment and as such wouldn't care. Plus I suspect your speculation on the rate of depreciation may be a tad off the mark too.

However it all boils down to personal preference. I see the ttrs as nothing more than a TT with a load of tat stuck on and as such you just have a nice TT (yeah I know there's more to). Whereas the 4c is far more unique in my eyes. At 50k I'd want something I'd feel is special as 50k is a lot of money to me. The ttrs may or may not be the better performer but no doubt both will be more capable than I am a driver so any marginal differences in performance mean zilch to me and as such the 4c would be the no brainer. Horses for courses and all that

It looks fantastic IMO, as does the equally droolworthy 8C. Wheels are Marmite but archetypal Alfa. You either love 'em or loathe 'em.

However, if I had that sort of cash to spend and was in the market for something in this sector, I'd still have the Cayman.

50-60k euros is the target price AFAIK. More will be revealed at Geneva next month. :)

I've been on the "register your interest" list for a long time, so will see what happens with that.

This is why I did not buy a TTRS:-

That's a stage 2 car so great in a straight line, but corners like a typical Audi, understeer and quite dull.
The Alfa 4C should be a great car to drive and be and be awesome on track.

I like the 4C and I also like those wheels too, Alfa's should have those style as mine did back in the day. If it comes in below 1000kgs I will be surprised, I expect 1200kgs is where it will end up, maybe even more. My wife's current MX5 is I believe 1170kgs as an example and that, even with a folding hard top, is hardly heavy. It does have a problem though, at £50K it is in Cayman S territory and I can not foresee this car getting close to a Cayman in pretty much any area bar styling.
