Aliens: Colonial Marines

I am utterly gutted by this. I actually hope Gearbox goes down the toilet as they have taken one of the most iconic movie tieins and promised a great game and they have produced an complete load of poop. They are not getting my money and they really deserve to be taken to court by 20th Century Fox and Sega.

Havent played since my last post, but having watched the video that compares the final version to the demo they showed i am rather gutted :( I know i wont buy the season pass 100% now.

BUT We cant just blame Gearbox, Sega knew as did 20th fox the actualy state of the game yet released it anyway there all partly to blame

There will be so many inner workings that its hard to fully place blame as an outsider, but I agree that some guilt lies with all parties.

I can't find any information about how long Sega actually has the rights to the licence of the franchise from 20th Century Fox, given that they bought them in 2006, they have certainly held it a long time. If this was due to expire, they may simply not have enough time to build a new game from scratch.

Then there is the fact that a lot of money was thrown at the project and its been rehashed a number of times already, so they aren't going to want to write the project off again to start from scratch.

The contract that Sega had with Gearbox and any other developers may have essentially run its course, they possibly can't continue working on the project for a further redesign, due to other projects and staffing levels, even though Sega would have been aware of the final state.

Ultimately as I said earlier in the thread, they clearly hoped the franchise alone would sell the game. If it wasn't Aliens related, I'm sure it would have been canned.

It will be interesting to see whether any legal action gets taken and it wouldn't surprise me to see a Producer or two to go from Sega and Gearbox respectively.

It also does raise a few questions about practises that have started to develop in the games industry over the past number of years. Demos are not so common, there are strict embargoes on reviews and information and it seems that those who get to test gameplay footage never seem to have much bad to say, which suggests they have to be favourable for the early access. In case of a bad game, perhaps these practises actually hinder the Developers and costs sales, when they could potentially use it as vital feedback to amend things.

I just cant get over this game being annoyed is not even close to how I feel when I play this.

And at E3 last year when they showed the game on the floors it looked like the DEMO version seen in the video, wtf happened. I hope they release a official statement or something

Why, after reading the reviews, after reading this thread (and the pc one) did I buy this from Asda this morning .........

I did the same, I think most true real fans still buy it no matter what the reviews or posts say. You don't want to believe it yourself until you really see and experience it

To see for yourself, there's nothing wrong with that. I read reviews on gaming websites and a lot of opinions on this forum but they never really influence me in any way, if I'm interested in something I'll play it and formulate my own opinion. I got finished with the campaign on this last night, I'd give this a 5/10 and to be honest I'm fairly easy to please when it comes to games. As much as I love the Alien franchise, it's difficult to turn a blind eye to the numerous amount of problems with this game. Engine feels very clumsy, AI is TERRIBLE, storyline was predictable and had quite a few plot holes...don't even get me started on how lazy the ending was.

I feel like the best parts of the game is when you're going through Xenomorph hives, I found that quite tense. My 2 favourite parts of the game was:

1: When you first encounter the Praetorian, you have to escape weaponless then escape through the sewer without waking the dormant Xenomorphs..think they're called Lurkers? That was pretty tense.

2: When you visit the derelict spacecraft tor the 2nd time but the Xenomorphs have turned almost the entire thing into a hive, had to watch out for all kinds of things in there.

I hope the multiplayer is a bit more enjoyable, the Campaign had a lot of promise it just didn't deliver unfortunately =(

Some rumours flying about that sega have them fair bit of money but gearbox used quite allot of it on borderlands2 instead if true i can imagine they would get into quite abit of trouble

Coop is good. I just played 30 minutes of MP, can't reallly say much other then the FOV sucks and everyone uses Shotguns.

Every game I've play has been laggy. Including coop which was worse, thought I was blasting aliens next minute I'm trying to shoot a hole in the wall.

It seems like if your not the Host of the match its always going to be laggy for everyone else. Its so broken its annoying. I don't even know if patches will be able to fix it.

I'm interested the Co-op Single player on a harder mode more than just playing by myself as I have not tried that yet.

I just had my first laggy game, that was crap and had to leave.

But am starting to enjoy MP a little more.

Have to say, they need to fix it so when the host leaves, the game doesn't end... that's just stupid.

Yeah, They need something like COD games have the connections are always great on there and when the hosts leaves it just simple migrates over to a new host

Co-op campaign is fun atleast though just got to a stupid story part which makes no sense I swear the writers just got bored, still on ultimate bad ass mode at least its a challange some what
