Alienware Console

That's like saying the Asus Eeebox is a console because it looks just like a Wii.

Small form factor PCs have been around for years.

As much as I despise alienwares general overpricing, I do admit to liking some of their cases...

It just looks like a nice SFF that you'd want to have on top of your desk just to be like "oh that? yeah that's my computer."

The original Xbox was effectively PC hardware in a box, yet I don't recall that being referred to as anything other than a console ...

That's because of several very key differences:

The boards were manufactured with all the components combined onto a single board. Components had to be specifically designed/reengineerd for it. Just because it had a similar chip to a desktop PC, doesn't mean it had the exact same graphics card plugged in via a PCI-E slot like this does.

You could not build one yourself at home due to the above.

It had its own operating system built from the ground up, this never will.

And many more.

It's just a small PC, i already own one that's hooked up to a TV, i built it myself. I don't tell people who ask about it that 'it could be a console!' because no, it couldn't. It's a small PC.

Well it could be a console if hardware specs remained the same and software was produced specifically for it.

Like a PC, it's upgradeable. How exactly would you code specifically for potentially thousands of combinations of hardware? Oh wait, people already do, when they release software for PCs.

You're still missing the point.

I wrote "it could be a console if hardware specs remained the same and software was produced specifically for it." By any definition that would be a console.

I'm not for one minute suggesting it will ever be, but in theory.
