Alienware m17x spec help

There is only 10% max difference in performance with the graphics cards mate, you will hardly notice it, the 6990m is a lot more expensive and same for the 580m for that little difference in GPU performance. I mean pricey on OCUK but seems a good value laptop and remember you get bluray and 3d all in the same box too and a much better screen that is a lot brighter and better colours, have a read of the reviews you will see what I mean and it runs cooler this laptop compared to the alienware.

I just priced up an alienware with same specs apart from the graphics card is a 580m instead of the 6970m and they only do 1.5TB raid setup not 2TB like the samsung.

£720 difference from Samsung.. So is that 10% GPU difference worth it ? Even if you downgrade the RAM to 4GB Dells prices for RAM are stupid as you realised it only again saves £130 so £590 difference still.

I get where you are coming from, but the alienware can be had cheaper using e-value codes etc, n dell are massively overpricing hdd and memory. 130 i think to upgrade ram to 8gig etc. hundreds for the extra hdd. Both which can be bought for sod all and installed self.

Am looking to have an ssd for my OS drive not raid anyway man, n can pick up a ram kit for about 60 quid. It might end up costing me overall prolly 50 quid more than teh samsung, but the 10% is worth 50 quid to me yeah :)

Dont get me wrong i think the sammy looks nice, just kinda set on grabbing myself an alienware now for my needs.

e-value codes ? Mind sending some my way to my trust email mate ? Only thing putting me off the Alienware is the price and agree with you RAM and HDDs can be got elsewhere and updated.

yeah the third one on dmxdimension is the one i used to get 3d screen cheaper. Also a free delivery code, and i had employee purchase program through work for 8% off. Either way am waiting on a callback from a rep today to try n get the price down a little more.

Notebookreview forums have a thread on how to get the alienwares cheaper lol, worth checking out.

Waiting can often be the most cost effective way to save big though, one week it was 10% exttra off the next 20%.

If you can get an employee purchase programme code though that also helps.

A sales rep should be able to give you an extra 5-10% off over and above codes if you push hard enough.

Always wait to buy the warranty till after too (unless it is on offer) as they usually phone and try to push the 3 year extended but offer 50% off.

Dell = DFS of computer the world :D

According to people on nbr, soon equates to 5 months from now wtih the lower end cards, and about 8 months for the good ones.

I called OCUK about the Samsung 700G7A-502UK seems they don't price match other retailers and i'm not paying the RRP £1499.99 even if it says its a "deal offer" which clearly it is not by other sellers prices of over £125 to £135 off the deal price here. So OCUK can we have a real deal price please on this ? As I said I would like to purchase from yourselves but I'm not paying £125 difference to other respected retailers that are selling the same Samsung Laptop "Samsung 700G7A-502UK".

Drop a message in the customer service forum or speak to Gibbo on the phone.

I would be surprised if they can't do anything on the price. Knowing who else is selling these though and their customer service compared to OcUK, it is worth paying more to get from OcUK. The other re-seller will wash their hands of you from the moment it is shipped, and whilst SOGA exists they will drag it out.

Great re-seller for business notebooks etc where it is just easier and quicker to deal with the manufacturer and uk business support (toshiba, lenovo, HP) but not so great for home / media systems.

Mate I dont want to mention other suppliers names here but one is huge (been around since 1987 and very well known) and they have fantastic customer care too and is selling the same laptop for £1,405.95 and they have £40 off any purchase over £599 so makes it £1365.95 so it's over £134 cheaper than here. This is why i'm shocked at OCUK's price on this item.

Just use Google "Samsung 700G7A" and click shopping till you see £1,405.95 and then you will see their £40 off offer too making it £1365.95. I'm shocked really and then another place I have purchased stuff from before is selling for "£1,366.71" and the going rate for it seems anywhere from £1365-£1400 There is a big price difference here. That is why i'm wondering has it been priced wrong ? I would have paid £1385 from OCUK and not thought twice over it but when such a huge online I.T retailer is selling the same laptop for £1365.95, I have to question the price and funny thing this same retailer is normally more expensive than OCUK.

I may give Gibbo a call now actually and see what they can do as I said they are losing sales on this item and I really do think it is priced wrong here.

Yes im in the process of calling Gibbo at the moment and on the phone to them but on hold again grr. Will see what they can do or will order it elsewhere.

::EDIT::
I called but couldn't speak to Gibbo the gentleman said but they will be looking into it and for me to check later in the afternoon on the site if a new price has been sorted.

Still expensive, still does not come with bluray and im guessing its all at the basic setup too apart from the 3d screen and 580m. The memory and harddrives are way too small and will cost more to update them and by time you do that it all adds up even buying them elsewhere.

I'm hoping OCUK can sort the price out today on the Samsung, if not i'm ordering it elsewhere. It's a hell of a laptop for £1365 and only have to add another 8GB of ram for £40 and it's perfect for work and gaming.

Any luck getting a more reasonable price out of them?

Still waiting for them to change the price on the site, was told to wait till the afternoon and check back on the site for the price, but does not seem like they are doing anything about it so far. Well they have till tomorrow morning or im order from elsewhere, there is atleast 6 places I found selling the Samsung for £1365-£1375. I just left a post on the Pre-Sales Queries section of the forums and hoping they get back to me by tomorrow or sooner regarding the price. Will let you guys know.

No they wouldn't shift on the price and it went back up today to the full price of £1649.99 too . I purchased one elsewhere for £1400 with next day delivery today so will see what all the hype is about this Samsung 700G7A-502UK laptop tomorrow and will try stick up a review for it in its sale thread at some point so you guys can get an idea what it is like and if it is worth all the hassle and hype. I ended up losing out on the £1365 offer because it was a one day only offer yesterday .
