All Quiet on the Western Front | Netflix

Wasn't expected this to be in German, and the dubbing is horrendous. Gutted but I couldn't enjoy it.. I'm half way through and I turned it off to to bed. Might revisit it at some point

This sort of film should be watched in original language with subtitles. Adds to the realism.
Couldn't... Let just say I don't have Netflix.
Anyway I finished it this morning, it was quite good. Aside from what I said before. I enjoyed the ending more than the start.

Watched a bit of it last night, which I enjoyed, though it was stupidly late o'clock.
I'll try again tonight when I should be a bit fresher.

Sheesh why watch dubbed versions?

Edit: Oh ok…

You can still do this, even if you steal.
Yeah but when it's available at hand, I can't be bothered to go the other way and put the effort in.

The cynic in me feels like the ending would never have gone down like that in real life. Would love to read up about anything similar but I just get the feeling it was for dramatic effect.

In what sense?

From what I've read about WW1 I don't think it was that far removed from reality.

Any recommendations? i think most of the WWI stuff i've seen has been about the air battles. and Nolan's film was crap.
1917
Gallipoli
Paths of Glory
The Trench
War Horse (I didn't enjoy this but many did)

These are ww1, Dunkirk is ww2 and you're right it's crap. There's some amazing ww2 movies;

Stalingrad
Enemy at the gates
Come and see
The pianist
Downfall

Don't forget Valkyrie and Anthropoid. Both true stories about hitter assassination plot and the latter about the Heydrich assassination. Great films.

The ending? Something like 3000 soldiers were killed between the signing of the Armistice at 5am and it coming into effect at 11am...
Google 'Henry Gunther...'

1917 is what i meant, mixed it up, lol. it was **** too. Rewatched Gallipoli recently, real disappointment from what i remembered.

Visually this was a treat for the eyes, the audio was good in the battles but the soundtrack didn't fit imo.

Just watched it. I thought it was excellent.

slightly off topic, a film (also German, wwii) that’s not been mentioned is Der Hauptman. That’s good too.
