All Quiet on the Western Front | Netflix

WW2
1917
Gallipoli
Paths of Glory
The Trench
War Horse (I didn't enjoy this but many did)

These are ww1, Dunkirk is ww2 and you're right it's crap. There's some amazing ww2 movies;

Stalingrad
Enemy at the gates
Come and see
The pianist
Downfall
Agree!

Warhorse - forget the film, watch this superb documentary absolutely gets me every time.

A couple of other films (WW2)

Riphagen
Land of Mine
Operation Daybreak - love the soundtrack to this film
A Bridge Too Far - A once in a lifetime film, absolute blockbuster cast

In what sense?

From what I've read about WW1 I don't think it was that far removed from reality.
The ending? Something like 3000 soldiers were killed between the signing of the Armistice at 5am and it coming into effect at 11am...
Google 'Henry Gunther...'

Yeah I appreciate that, but I bet that's cause they didn't know the orders were going to come through about it ending. I swear the end has a scenario where he gets stabbed and then someone blows a whilstle and say right it's 11 o'clock no more killing and everyone just walks around like it was a bit of fun.

Really enjoyed it. Not often I find a remake to be passable never mind just downright good.

Honestly amazing film. I was a bit unsure of the score to begin with but it really helped build the film. Pacing was great, few minor niggles like and 2nd goose oh and how quick the mud dries on his face.

Looks like a local independent cinema will be showing it soon so definitely going to rewatch it there.

Just got round to watching it. Pretty grim. Makes you realise with everything going on at the moment that we are the lucky ones.

It is one of those movies you really need to watch with subtitles and native voice. Dubbing never sounds right.

Rare film these days when even the Drinker recommends it (yes I know he's hamming his usual content up for a certain crowd on YouTube)

Yeah thats was pretty, bad.
I finally managed to finish watching it tonight. Very good movie. Probably the only movie that has stopped me pouring another glass of wine. I was glued to the TV, gripping stuff.

**** that German General in particular. Why send hundreds, if not thousands of men back into the war when it has only a few minutes left before ceasefire and peace.
