Hi there

In the rules on these forums this part is made very clear:-

OcUK are happy to provide the resources of these forums to responsible individuals without charge. They cost a substantial amount of money to maintain and use considerable amounts of bandwith which is paid for exclusively by OcUK. As you know OcUK are in the computer hardware business and therefore the promotion of OcUK's competitors is forbidden. Examples of promotion are :-
Posting links to competitors websites
Posting links to reviews that promote competitors
Quoting the names or contact details of competitors
Offering to provide the names or contact details of competitors
Hinting about product availability at competitors and their pricing
Using the forums to notify a member of intent or actual supply of names or contact details of competitors
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in signatures
Listing competitors names, URL's or e-mail addresses in profile
Posting links to or the mentioning of auction sites
Disguising attempts to do any of the above

Now recently there has been several long term members who know these rules clearly breaking them, those people know who they are and its not acceptable.

Let me make it clear that from this point onwards myself and other DON's are tired of constantly having to edit people's post and find it insulting when in its long term members who think they can push the rules and get away with it. Well no more !

If anybody breaks these rules from now on in this forum we will not be so nice. You will be instantly banned and not allowed back on these forums until banning DON is happy to let you back. Any attempt to re-register under a new name which is also against rules will see both accounts permantly banned.

This rule is not up for negotiation so if you don't like it then don't use these forums.

i doubt that the forums cost that much to maintain, so many other forums out there on the net e.g XS forums, ocworkbench etc. the forums work in both ways, yes they help to provide support but they also help to promote the business and its products, how many times have you seen people post saying ohh buy X product then post the ocuk link? sounds to me like your gonna start a subscription fee to access the forums :(

yes there are the occasional muppets that post the link to competitors but they havent read the rules, and to be honest the majority of the forum users don;t bother to read the rules they just sign up and start posting.

Lmao, did you not see the figure posted that Spie pays for the forum, ok - now go look at the amount of users on this forum, and think of the amount of bandwidth that is needed.

Can't see any google adds around here paying the way.

This is obviously a sore point for OcUk. But don't worry Gibbo, you keep treating us fairly and offering us quality products at good prices and we'll keep shopping with you.

And I'm sure the long term members will more than happy pay their way by recommending your products and spending hundreds if not thousands of their own pounds each year.

from the looks of it, 90% of the forum traffic sits in the general discussion area, if you closed that off and left just the PC side of the forums active it would be far cheaper to run.

If people are going elsewhere or mentioning better prices elsewhere instead of kicking their arse , how about beating those prices then kicking their arse? :p

Ooops, fraid I've broke those a few times, sorry. Looks like I'll have to trust people to use their own intiative from now on  Don't get me wrong I like OcUK and prefer to use them when I can, but it's just another retailer at the end of the day, and if they're not the cheapest, or pretty close, then I shop elsewhere. Just not rich enough to be picky.

Also the forums clearly generate a hundred times more sales than is lost with the odd post about something being cheaper elsewhere.

thats a very good point you raise there.

I agree... whenever i have bought anything from ocuk in the past i found their service to be fantastic.. its just a shame they are not always the cheapest ! :) Now if ocuk was able to price-match...

Maybe... they should have a section which would BOOST sales

Found a price cheaper elsewhere , post it here and we will beat it?

Major companies used to do it or have people forgot?
