So why even pick a keeper or defenders then?
Nah, I dont need to weigh up the balance because all I am doing is picking the 11 players I would want wearing my shirts from the EPL era, I am not picking a team to play week in and week out for 5 seasons. Hence I am not going into balance, formations, tactics, playstyles, training schedules, managers, coaches, set pieces and so on.![]()
Then what is the point at all?
I could pick a pretty mediocre side that would rip yours to bits in that case, just because they are organised![]()
Precisely, for example someone mentioned Matt Le Tissier earlier, someone who I think was incredibly skilled, but he didnt win medals. Xabi Alonso is another who is universally regarded as incredibly skilled but didnt win medals. Sometimes the top players dont happen to play for the top teams. That was kind of the point I was making with my first post that I thought we were supposed to pick players based on their skill, not based on the teams they played in.
However, if thats not right then I will happily name 11 arsenal and utd players instead. Wouldnt want to do things wrong after all![]()
Yes, and that format involved picking a team, not just "picking the XI players from my era that I wanted to see wearing my shirt", or as I'd have said, you'd have just picked eleven creative, attacking players.I was trying to stay faithful to the format that everyone else was picking. Sorry if I was wrong to do so, I will try harder in future to be right.
Here is my amended 11.
Schmeichel
Irwin
Ferdinand
Adams
Neville
Giggs
Keane
Vieira
Ronaldo
Rooney
Henry
That should be more appeasing![]()
Now come on don't throw your toys out the pram.
You can include who you like but at the end of the day it's a team to play football, MLT would be great in any team but the fact is he was a lazy **** and for that reason he doesn't make many teams. Plus the fact there has been several better midfielders than him![]()
I'd actually quite like a "Best EPL team that has never won the league" thread. Now THAT would make much more interesting picks.
Yes, and that format involved picking a team, not just "picking the XI players from my era that I wanted to see wearing my shirt", or as I'd have said, you'd have just picked eleven creative, attacking players.
The point isn't that you picked Gerrard here, it's that your completely lacking in a defensive midfielder of any kind. Why not just admit that and say "yeah sod it we'd play like a Keegan team", rather than changing your mind on what the team is supposed to be?
Good to see you playing the "it's my ball and I'll take it home with me" approach to disagreements again.
Ah but then was he lazy because of his coaches, manager, tactics and fellow team mates? So dont we then have to take all that into account and name our coaches, manager, tactics and so forth as well? Also werent we supposed to be naming people based on their prime? Not their lazy periods?
As I say, theres an amended 11, I hope that is more suitable for the forumers/forumettes
Baa.

Yeah, LeTiss was lazy because of managers and coaches, did you ever watch him play? He was great when he wanted to be, normally against MU and Newcastle at the time, pretty god damn average against anyone else.
Yeah, at times he was quite spellbinding with the ball. Bit like a british Zola![]()
Schmeichel
Cole
Stam
Adams
Neville
Ginola
Keane
Gerrard
Ronaldo
RvN
Shearer
Now that's more like it but I feel you're being a Spurs gay by omitting Giggs for Ginola![]()
And then in the next game goes missing for 90 minutes, like the old quote goes, "can he do it on a cold Wednesday night in the Brittania"![]()
