I was in two minds about posting this as im not sure on what the response will be and im hoping that a few people will take notice of this.

gPotato ( one of those companies that offer several kiddie f2p mmos and i avoid like the plague ) have aquired the rights for the European server which went into beta today of Allods, now i download absolutely everything and usualy i kid not end up leaving within 5 minutes, but this is my 8th or so hour straight of this game.

Its very 'wow' in its looks and movement is plush which grabbed my attention first, i believe 8 different races and about 9 classess per side. All your usual stuff aside from the fact that theyve brought back many of the older 'CC' classes and deniers* which has led me to play this game and am looking foward to some huge fights around the pvp map.

Story is amazing and this is one thing i usualy skip in MMO's animation and fps are top notch for such a nice looking game with a slightly cell shaded feel and each zone has its own depth.

If i had to sum it up it would be a mix of everything that has gone right it most recent mmos and abit of russian devlopment flare.

Can get some more screenshots on request but are plenty of them around and to sum up what i was saying more here is a video ( not me reviewing btw )

Holy ****, i share the guy in the video's opinion on the graphics. It looks almost identical to WoW, the physics when they fly at 3:20 and the channeling animation at 3:37. That's no bad thing though, WoW looked great to me. The map has the exact same stying as city maps in WoW, and the scene at the end (9:30) reminded me a lot of WoW.

It just looks a LOT like WoW xD. Where do i get it?

I can see a lot of Warcraft in this game, and even some Warhammer. It does look interesting though, it's free to play so I'll definitely be giving it a go.

Gpotato is a company which allows you to buy in-game items with real money, if they do this I'll be avoiding it like the plague :)

That's how F2P MMO's work... they have to pay their bills somehow.

Money doesn't grow on trees! :P

But would you happily pay £8 or more a month (and probably end up paying more) than a system like this? I've seen a few games/mmos like this and you end up spending less! Not always a good thing for the company though.

Aye but some games can do it that it doesn't have a big effect on gameplay.
Perfect World example is a game where if you don't spend real money, you're a gimp.

I read up on the game a bit and found an interview with one of the community managers for the EU game, and she said:

We are still ironing out exactly what we would like to do with the Allods Online cash shop but we can assure you that any decisions we make will be with the players ideas and concerns in mind. We understand that the cash shop can make it or break it for many people, and we want to make sure that it is a completely positive experience. While I can’t say for sure what will exactly be available, I can say that no player will ever be forced to spend money to enjoy the game.

Which I find a bit comforting :) I was dreading that it might end up forcing you to buy stuff.. but it makes me think how they make their money if people aren't forced to buy things from the cash shop.

Downloaded the game client earlier and managed to get a hold of a closed beta key and had a quick play (client is only 2.2GB). I really avoid free to play mmo's like the plague but the video for this game got me intrigued by it. After playing for an hour, it's actually very well done - the graphics are excellent, the voiceovers are pretty good (some bad ones, some good ones), the animations were great. I guess I'm just a bit suprised after playing it that it's actually going to be free to play.

Yeah but there's a big difference between "enjoying the game" and being gimped, some items being cash shop only which give you a massive upgrade like PWi could really make it crap. 1 example is a pet only found in the PWi cash shop, which happens to be an IWIN button and basically means anything it touches is dead.

If it avoids things like this it could be good, but I dont hold my hopes high on free to play MMO's anymore :(

Played it a bit and its the best F2P mmo I've played. (And I've played loads) On par with some P2P games like Champions Online. Got a few interesting class mechanics, like mages spell stack a buff they can release for a random effect. They put some thought into the world too but it the quest are your standard mmo fair.

Yeah, there was a few nifty things I found interesting. Like the charged spell that some classes can do (Priest for one) so you charge a spell out of combat and release it instantly on a target, even better than you can use other spells without losing the charge. Also found the enchanted arrow stacking quiver thing that my gremlin trickster had quite original.

Only thing I don't really like which may change, is that mobs on equal level are tough. Mobs one level below you are very easy, and mobs one level higher than you are nails.

Lots of poeple have complained the combat too slow but you have to spec right. Pump your +hit and not just int/str like most F2P.
