Alloy Stripping

Would i be correct in saying you have to get a garage to take off your tyres and fit them back on? Or can you do it with the tyres on?

You can do it with the tyres on if you mask it and are careful, best results you want the tyres off though.

Fog

Apparently if you cover the tyres with swarfega the paint will just brush off them. I'm going to see how much access there is to the rim when the tyres are flat.

Is that before or after painting?

Before painting.

Leaving the tyres on makes it easier to paint the inside and rear of the rims which is what I want to do.

i just took my set down to quickfit (on the indl. estate) on sunday afternoon and asked very nicely :)

guy just popped them off in a few mins.

it's *much* easier to work without the tyres on. also, allows you to do the *whole* wheel

I suppose you would have to pay to get the wheel back on a rebalaced?

I'll be doing this soon, I'm getting hold of a second set of Honda alloys so I'll be able to work on them without taking my car off the road.

I think a lot of garages would just charge a couple of quid for fitting and balancing of tyres.

The one I go to would do it for free I'm sure though, because I've been going there for nearly a year and my nan used to teach the chap who runs the place.

A mate of mine who did his own wheel refurb said that the biggest thing is the prep work, i.e. getting the wheel properly clean and getting all the bubbled paint etc off properly. I think with proper kerbing I'd get it done professionally.

yeh, but i figured as my tracking is out and so is the camber on the front n/s that i would need to get them rebalanced anyway :)

also im going from 14/165/65 to 15/45/195
