I am enjoying this so far and will stick it out to the bitter end, thats just how I role.
On a side note, why when making anything set in the future do they set it only a few years in the future as opposed to many years, it makes the technology less futuristic to me, this is set 40 years I the future and there is no way we will have robots anything like that then, maybe 200 years. They do it with loads of films and program's. ...rant over.
We've cloned things ages ago, and as of recently they can make a robot that can run 28mph, another one that can run and on a treadmill that moves in all directions without falling over, another one that can jump 2 stories(yeah it's a tiny little thing though), another fairly large robot in roughly the shape of a man.
The AI part is actually relatively easy, putting it in a reliable package is the hard part, real genuine attempts to make real robots has been in the past 5-10 years and they are coming along leaps and bounds.
DO you even realise what tech has been done in the past 40 years, 40 years from now we could easily be quite significantly ahead of where that show is.
Frankly robots like that should be fairly doable by then, likely in way way less than 40 years.... the question is with society scared to death of the potential for skynet/i robot/dozens of other "the robots went bad", I think there would be a huge morality fight against robots being the biggest issue. Not just daft skynet style fears, but more, taking our jobs kind fears.
Put one of the military/google(they bought a firm that has been producing robots for military) robots together with a real doll and a few years work on AI and they wouldn't be a million miles away already. Look at the robotic hands amputee's are getting in the past year or two, genuine ability to pick up, manipulate things. The biggest problem with them is the interface and control and that is actually way easier with a robot than a human.
Anyway, the show, still a bit too stupid, getting more stupid and far too narrow.
Most other cop shows would at least do some story on the boss, the other detectives, have an episode helping an old friend which gives some insight into one of their pasts or an old case. They basically ignore and haven't even slightly attempted to flesh out any other characters. DRN has very little back story to begin with and main guy may or may not have a vengeance style back story... as yet there is no sign he's pursuing the story from the pilot as an on going arc, in which case the show has no real seasonal arc at all.
The stories are a bit meh, but a solid cast, mostly being ignored. Last weeks ep was awful, the genius and highly trained sniper who couldn't hit a target that ran in a straight line away from him. The entire exchange of hostage scene and the both awful cgi for the truck flip and the very sudden and stupid ending to the episode that was him chasing the truck then flipping it, it was cringe worthy.
