Alone in the dark - still on schedule?

Thinking of getting this for the Wii but there doesn't seem to be any reviews about :(

Anyone tried the Wii version or know whether the controls are better?

I tell you what, the driving section in Episode 2 Sequence 5 is not ******* infuriating in the slightest!!!

I've attempted it that much now, i've just been gave the 10 Mile Race achievement :(

Thats it give it a fair crack of the whip??

I've given it an hour and I wish I only gave it 10mins... cos that was a complete waste of 1 hour in my life.

It got worse and worse with every room I got too. I tried to like it, and booted it up 4 times, but just got more stressed witht e controls!

The bit where I told the game to f-off was when I wanted to get through a door with the axe in my hand, but he cant open a door without dropping the axe, so he dropped it, I picked it up again and the door closed by itself. So I repeated this process 4 times til I managed to get out the door with the axe in my hand!

Yeah i noticed that too. Trying to get through doorways with anything bigger than a packet of peanuts is a nightmare! :D

Just about to start the game so im trying to avoid the nay sayers... and reviews :P Looking at different forums though it seems that a lot of people are getting stuck and dieing a lot because they are not using the items/enviroment to their advantage?!

well I have progressed to the last but one level and have to say that I have started to really enjoy this game.

Yes the controls are a little difficult to use when you first start (well only the combat actions with a free welding weapon in your hand) and the camera angles in third person view are a little dodgy on occasion but even with these faults it is still an enjoyable game. I think for the most part it would be a solid rentable game for most people. Certainly achievements are easy to get. :D

If you do use the environment to its full potential you can get creative with solving puzzles and killing enemies in interesting and different ways.

One thing that really annoyed me initially is that with games like res evil you can upgrade your inventory size which you don't appear to be able to do in Alone in the Dark. But this I feel adds an extra dimension of difficulty to the game and makes you think about whether to carry a healing spray or an extra bottle of flamable liquid or that box of batteries for your torch.

Although it has taken most of the game to get to the point where I am really enjoying the game I think the developers have done a nice job in building the atmosphere slowly (maybe a little too slowly) but you do start to get immersed within the game.

This game has a solid story and although I don't think it has the atmosphere of say bioshock it still is a better than average game. I think this has been a good effort in developing the alone in the dark series for the current gen of consoles and if a sequel were to be done for the this title for the current or next gen consoles I feel a good foundation has been laid for the future.

IGN are wrong, well in my opinion they are. I've really enjoyed this game despite its faults. Great story and atmosphere, decent puzzles (though 1 or 2 frustrating ones), good voice acting and excellent visuals and sound.

I'd give this game an 8 out of 10. The only thing that lets it down are the faults as said before. It has some bugs, I fell through the map twice in different places and getting through some doors with certain weapons can be a challenge, but easily solved by holding out the weapon in front of you by pushing the RS forward. Also the control method can be difficult to begin with but after a while becomes simple and easy.

Those not giving the game a chance after the first hour are missing out to be honest, as Dave said above the game requires you to think ahead, even when you don't know what's coming.

well i finished this over the weekend and only have 4 achievemnts left to get on this.

Overall I have throughly enjoyed this game.

If only they had managed to get the story which developed nicely at the end right at the start this i think would have got more people into the game.

As i said earlier as long as you persist with the controls they become easier and to be honest i mainly used the flaming bullets throughout the game which made life really easy.

the only bit that felt like a chore was the burning of the evil roots which although present early on the game do not come to the fold until the later levels.

if this had been split up across the game then i would have broken up the repeative nature of this one task.

all in all i think it deserves a solid 7/10 for me.

PROS:

A nice return to survival horror (first alone game i have played.)
interesting use of environment and weapons
nice episodic feature so you can replay the best bits of the game
limited inventory so requiring some thought about what to carry

CONS:
free weapon control system a little tricky
puzzles were a little too simple at times
atmosphere takes a while to build up and when it starts getting good the game ends
later levels can be a bit repeative
