Tick box appeared for me
I have just reached the part after the security guard and reached the first auto save point which is quite a bit of gameplay in the first chapter so think I can post my thoughts so far.
Installation
Installation took ages, I was able to watch a The Daily Show and then surf the net a bit whilst it installed. I even went for a slash and upon my return it was just finishing installation. The filename extensions end in .big for good reason and the game consumes 7.7GB after it's all done.
During install it verifies your disc with Securom I assume from the flash popup that appeared then went and only when running the game 1st time does it ask for the serial to activate online.
Game load times are almost invisible, you will not notice them on a half decent harddrive.
Camera
I like it! I didn't find the camera too awkward at all, it can get a little out of sight if you're walking in the wrong direction but other than that it was on the whole fine, no different to Res Evil 4 for example.
Controls
The 360pad works fine too and the button configs for each of the character actions are nicely laid out by default. I think the "look" aspect of the right analogue stick in response is a little slow perhaps but only in 1st person view whilst in 3rd person the movement is almost instant.
I have not tried the keyboard.
To get the 360 pad to work you have to start by using the KB to attempt modifying a key config then hit any button on the 360 pad to activate the whole pad - a little annoying if you're wondering HTF you get the 360 pad activated!
Sound & Music
I don't think the sounds are as good as Bioshock, I think they are excellent for this kind of game but it lacks the bass you get from booming explosions etc that you'd normally get in Bioshock for maximum impact! still it's pretty loud and well timed.
The music is nice and fitting to this kind of game too but it's not the Res Evil or Silent Hill quality of eeriness.
Visuals & Performance
Performance is very good and graphics quality is also very good though probably not on the same detail level as Bioshock. I get almost a constant 40fps give or take at "HIGH" settings using 1920x1200.
Given the amount of smoke, fire and destruction going on I think performance is as you'd expect for smooth gameplay.
I did not find any difference between 3rd person and 1st person view like some have reported around the net.
I am playing on a 3ghz Q6600, Vista32, 4GB DDR2 890MHz, 8800GT OC and a 250GB Seagate 8MB SATA2 disk.
Thoughts
I would say the game was well worth the £27 I paid for it so far, I have not even reached central part yet and I'm impressed! the niggles are made up for by the game style and the way you have to use your surroundings. You are left to figure out how to solve things without any clues which might is a bit of a bummer but it makes it a bit more interesting not being spoon fed on every puzzle.
Sometimes you will die several times but it will instantly come back to where you left off but do make sure you save manually every now and then just in case.
People sighed when they heard it used Securom but I have yet to have a single issue with it, it's not like it runs in the background like some applications (Starforce, Punkbstra/b etc).
I did encounter one crash to desktop when setting the controls but I think this was a one off as it has not happened since.
I have a bunch of screenshots and movies
here for people to view, possibly mild spoiler warning for those that don't want to see gameplay footage but nothing major.
