Alternative to Gmail

OP can't even be bothered to tell us why.
Shame on him.

yup - threads like this are silly - asking for advice without really specifying what you want

perhaps the OP could clarify what the issue is with using gmail - that might help someone recommend another provider that doesn't have that issue - I guess if the issue is 'OP hates google' then it makes things simple but I'm presuming there is something a bit more than that

Buying your own domain is a way forward. But really, I wouldn't lose sleep over the fact that you are using a gmail account. There are more pressing matters at hand, such as how well your CV is written.

I have never had an issue with using gmail on all my job applications. I can tell you now that having something like [email protected] will likely get you passed over though. Just do something sensible like your name and you will be fine.

When I was younger I stopped using silly names for business (job) purposes when a colleague mentioned to me that one way they quickly sift job apps is to see if the email address is sensible (Obviously if you are applying for a creative position, this may not apply!)

Gmail had the upper hand while it was free, but now its paid Office 365 is a decent rival. Although Outlook web is still a pile of ****.

Outlook web is still better than gmail for work-related-use, in my opinion, let alone full-featured outlook.

I work for one of the larger pharma companies... they made the migration to gmail for work last year and it's abysmal... everyone hates it.

I genuinely prefer it for personal use where i'm not so desperate to keep track of things.

But for work related use... it's just... terrible... Microsoft are better at this one.

(and I don't like microsoft very much :p)

For OP... there is nothing wrong with a gmail address... it's free and common, it's like having an AOL address a decade ago... nothing special and nothing taboo.

I still use my [email protected] address for job applications/CV

I have been thinking about moving to using my own domain, I already own firstnamelastname.com, but am not that fussed...

I use 365 at work and it's awful, but still better than Google for work as that's what my GF has and they all hate that. It seems nothing beats good old Outlook.

I use a single Gmail account to send and receive from about 5 various accounts including some Hotmail ones. I added firstnamelastname.co.uk to Google Apps when it was free.

OP, see if you can get a decent domain name and then add that to any of the cheap email providers. They will almost certainly do POP meaning you can just manage it all through your personal GMail account anyway. A domain name will be about £7 for 2 years, and an email service a few quid at most. If you can get something generic then you can setup emails for familty members too.

When you say they hate Gmail is that just because they don't really understand how it works? Or are there genuine issues as to why they don't like it?
