Always stick to the speed limit...

Let's imagine that your friend stepped out into the road when the car was 100 feet distant, about 6 car lengths away. At 30 MPH, 44 feet/second, it would take the car 1.51r seconds to reach the point of impact. At 45 MPH, 66 feet/second, it would take the car 2.27r seconds to reach the point of impact. If the car'd been traveling at the speed limit and made no course modifications it would have given your friend 0.75r more seconds to evade.

Would he have been able to evade in that time?

o dear

seriously people wtf, i dont even know what to say

how was i blaming the driver.. and he stepped out as the road was clear when he first looked but as he was going to fast he went round the corner and me mate stepped out. It was a seat Ibiza S.

also if that person wasnt ragging his car he would hve been able to break in time, he wouldnt have got hit.. Whats with all the anger and stuff you bunch of fish

Good old Britain...

and this reminds me of that ad.

"If you hit me at 40, there's an 80% I'll die"

"If you hit me at 30, there's a 80% chance I'll live"

"IF I WASN'T ******* ABOUT IN THE ROAD, THERE WOULD BE A 100% CHANCE I'D LIVE"

Yet......it's usually the driver that gets done for this sort of thing. Sigh.

Whats with all the anger and stuff you bunch of <personal attack here>

Thanks for the personal attack (oh and yes, it is personaly since I am part of that group labled as "personal attack here> that wonders why he was in the road at all). Isn't that against the rules?

Whilst obviously awful, i'm an awful person too and find this slightly hilarious. Most runnings over seem to be because idiots walk into the road without looking, and you know, not to generalise they probably deserve most of what they get as a result.

In fact, I feel a bit bad for the guy doing the 45mph. If it was a built up area or whatnot, then fair enough. If it was one of those boroughs where the idiot council put everything to 30 in a stupid attempt to make everyone try and blow up their council buildings, then it's a bit of annoyance, doing a possibly acceptable speed, and maybe now feeling bad for running over a blind person.

Was he blind by the way? If so I apologise.

Nobody saying driver was right but people have to learn to take care of themselves. Had he looked and crosses correctly as folk are shown in the early years of there lives then the cars speed would be irrelevant and your friend wouldn't have a scratch on him.

People have become to soft and stupid, need to grow a set and look after themselves like they did in the bad old days.

You would have thought so.

Can I just throw the "if he was going 50mph he would have been long gone before your mate crossed the road" line into the thread? If only I could be bothered to look up the Speed Safety video parody on YouTube.

Oh, hope your mate is ok.

Amended for the sensitive among us.

In all honesty, did you expect any sympathy when posting in a motoring forum? If you were the driver, on the other hand, you'd get lots of supportive messages :D

Break what in time? Your friends leg?

If your friend didn't walk into the road without looking, the driver wouldn't have had to BRAKE in time for anything.....

Nobody is suggesting exceeding the speed limit is a good thing, but come on, your friend was entirely at fault by the sounds of it.

wouldn't say 45 mph is 'ragging' , your mate got lucky this time, now he WILL awaken himself whilst crossing the road.
