Am I a bad neighbour?

has everyone missed the fact it is bays coming of a road and as such is almost certainly private bays for that housing estate.

OP seems to think not.

Just to get things clear when I say car park don't picture a multi storey car park. It's more like a few bays painted on the road. Make no mistake, it's public for everyone to use.

I'm about to report an untaxed vehicle. The tax per year costs more than the vehicle in question. The vehicle never moves and the tax is 8 months out of date. It hasn't been moved from over a year now. It sits outside in the car park doing nothing. The owner in question has another car he always drives and that is taxed.

IMO, You should talk to him first before reporting him, otherwise that would make you a bad neighbour. If a neighbour wanted to report you ( for any reason) without notifying you first, giving you a chance to rectify the problem, wouldn't you be upset?

The owner is a tool. Approaching him first will result in a verbal conflict.
You describe the owner as a "tool", could you expand on this?
A verbal conflict may ensue, but give the guy a chance. As one of the favorite sayings on this forum goes, "man up" :p

The untaxed car in question does inconvenience me and other fellow neighbours as we hardly get a space to park our cars.

Shall I open my mouth to the tax man?
So is this post about an untaxed car or freeing up a parking space :D

How do you know it's not taxed?

The DVLA have sent me three tax discs out since I renewed in April and none of them have arrived so you'd look at my car and assume it's not taxed, but it is.
Check they have your address right. I delivered a tax reminder today to a guy who lives at number 51 but the envelope had number 31 on it. And one of my old log books had my surname spelt incorrectly.

Precise details don't seem to matter at the DVLA!

If its a new housing estate then the road and parking bays are not public unless the local authority has agreed to take over control of the road from the developer. Usually the local authority's only take control of the main road into the estates and not the offshoot roads.

Also be very careful before you cast the first stone.

That doesn't matter, it's a specific offence not to display a Vehicle Excise Duty disc on the car which it belongs, which can result itn the car being removed and crushed.

its a petty thing to do imo, without talking to him first, doesn't matter if its legal or not :l...

I'm reading this with interest. There's a car in my car park which has been abandoned and is not taxed. It is sitting in one of two disabled spaces with a flat tyre and it's wingmirror sitting on the bonnet. This is annoying because the elderly couple who the spaces are for have two cars and have to park one of their cars in our car park which leaves one less space for everyone else. Visitor spaces are at a premium especially at weekends so if I have anyone around they have nowhere to park, especially when the taxi driver who lives a few doors up has all THREE of his taxis parked.

The thing is, I live in a complex of about 20 houses on a private road so is there any point in reporting the vehicle for being untaxed? Can anything be done? I have reported it to the management company but they don't know who owns the car and neither does anyone else apparently.

Get on to them again. If they write to the DVLA stating that the car is abandoned on their property the DVLA should provide details of the registered keeper (the DVLA will make a nominal charge for this).

I also think it might an offence to use a disabled space without a blue badge even if it's on private land. However I can't image the Police bothering to follow this up.

As for the OP, do it. If it turns out it's not enforcible due the cars location you've lost nothing.
