Am i being unreasonable?

Insurance doesnt work if you leave the house unlocked. That would be ridiculous and we would have somewhat higher premiums if that were the case. You can insure your bike from being stolen but again, they will not pay up if you roll up asking for cash because you left your nice bike in the city center with no lock.

Sounds like your gf and your housemate were sleeping together while this was happening.. just saying.......

well your not being reasonable

bike should have been locked up if it wasnt insured. games in a locked room maybe ? im sure insurance can cover you accidentally leaving a door unlocked or a faulty lock. hell i left my bike in the garden and they still paid up after some whinging :o

The bike would have been locked if the front and back door was locked as it should have.

Again with the games, if they managed to leave the whole house unlocked they are unlikely to manage to lock interior doors.

Most insurance companies will only pay out on house insurance if someone had to break in; be that through a rear gate or the front door etc. People would just leave their doors open and unlocked when they fancied a change of decor if insurance companies were that stupid.

Makes me laugh how people think it's the norm to forget to lock the doors at night if i done such a thing i would wake up with a Kidney missing :D

You should have had insurance, you'll get no where trying to force people to pay up for forgetting to lock the door.

Put yourself in their shoes, we've all done it, it was just bad luck.

this man speakth the truth.

Its unfortunate.. but say the door had been locked... they could have broke in etc etc many scenarios etc etc.

at the end of the day, some stuff got stolen, it could have been you in the house. what would have you done then? chalked it up to experience?

lesson learnt.. if you cant afford it to be stolen, then get it insured!

Seems really convenient.

It's not like every day someone would try your door to see if you magically left it unlocked (Unless you live in a really ****ty town) even so, it's also very convenient it was when you were away, and only your stuff is gone.

Something doesn't add up.

I find it a bit hard to believe really, this guy's also into bikes as well you say?

They may have had a bag as well, but either way, carrying 20 games on a bike is gonna be awkward, grabbing them all, shoving them in to a bag, finding the bike, getting on it and out the house.

The original poster is a nice chap i am fairly sure of that, however he is naive and gullible, i agree that they were both upstairs having drug and alcohol fuelled sex while an arranged robbery went ahead.

If it wasnt arranged which im sure it was i think the reason they forgot to lock the door is because they were too busy tearing each others clothes off to think about it etc

Sucks, but you can hardly ask your hard up girlfriend to replace it. Get a lock on your door, lock your bike to something (or in your room), and chalk it up to a fact of life.

There is always someone who is willing to take what you have. Either take steps to ensure they cant or be ready to replace stuff regularly. Trying to make other people cough up is hardly fair. It's not like they gave the stuff away.

Fair enough, but then again, they were the people in at the time, and the duty is on them to make sure the house and its possessions are as safe as they can make them.

Making sure doors are locked are automatic (for me anyway) and that's the very reason insurance companies state this, it's your duty to look after your stuff, and leaving doors unlocked qualifies as not looking after.

Especially considering it must have been in a communal area, if I was doing a house share, I'd definitely have a lock on my room, just in case, but I'd expect the other members of the household to respect my belongings as I would the same for them.

No chance would I leave the house unlocked.

Damp Cat is also part of this conspiracy!

So you were away sleeping in a field and they were in such a hurry to get to bed they forgot to lock the doors?

Him being a nob and her coming over all guilty?

Are you sure its just your bike/games missing?
