afternoon all,

as you may or may not know.. right now I drive a MY99 Impreza Sport. Love the car to bits, done some nice styling and ICE mods, and with just lowering and colour coding on the list to do.
Whilst it's not the fastest car in the world it's still fun.
However in November I will have 2 years NCB (rapid acceleration) and feel the need for speed.
Would I be crazy to consider buying a turbo'd Impreza early next year? Bare in mind insurance isnt a problem, i used to pay £350 a month on this sport... so I'm sure it wont be much more on a turbo.. (i hope)
I don't think I will kill myself, because I'm not a speedy driver, i've looked after my dad's 340bhp WRX for 2 weeks, driving it everyday, i've driven a P1, various STi's, and never have I felt the need to push harder at the speeds i was going, due to loving it and feeling completely in control.

so what do you think? I'll probably still be 18 just turning 19 when I would get one.. and of course I would get a Classic with A/C and maybe a funky sunroof, chuck all my nice styling bits on, and I'd be happy!

crazy or not? :D

It isn't RWD so there is no chance you could possibly die at all.

If it was RWD however that would mean almost certain death.

I saw a Skyline driver trying to show off after he over took me and nearly stacked it. :D

Went a fair bit sideways and half off the road. I just grinned till I thought about all the dust he kicked up and that I had just cleaned my car.

lol glad you got your priorities straight.

car being clean > someone almost crashing :p

If you have the money, and can find someone who will insure you, why not!

But £350 a month! I thought my £1700 was bad!

Well it's down to £200 now, and thats 18 with 1 years ncb :) november time it should be around the 150 mark, so it's not all that bad really.... ;)

I do mean a month btw.. lol

£350 a month = £4200 a year? nah... surely no-one would pay that.

EDIT: oh rapid bonus is 10 months? still £3500 though:eek:

Just get the car :)

when I was 20 I had an RX-2 with a worked 13B rotary in it 320bhp after blowing out one of the tyres on my mags I stuck a stock tyre and rim on it, it was on the rear so anyways going down a straight stretch of road in the wet the car would start to slide sideways lots of fun but a little dangerous :D

And yes after a little while I lost my license

If you really want to pay that much for insurance, then go for it. The thought of you losing the car due to an accident or points should slow you down for a while, as I can't see the insurers being too kind to you.

You seem to know a hell of a lot about these cars, but just make sure you consider the extra running costs.

Hi there

What brings you to this conclusion?

Somebody can lose control of any car irrelevant if its FWD, RWD or 4x4 as all cars have their limits and if you push close or pass them your gonna end up off the road on your roof no doubt.

As to the topic poster you seem sensible and have driven plenty of fast cars so go for it. Fast cars are not dangerous, just like guns are not dangerous. Its the people who use them that make them dangerous when used incorrectly.

Possibly, depends on whther or not you can be sensible enough not to hoon the living daylights out of it straight away. Personally, I can think of better things to do with £350 a month, like a £60k mortgage for example but it's you money

Perhaps in future when I make slightly sarcastic posts relating to the attitude this forum sometimes has I ought to fill my post with a few dozen smileys so people don't take it so seriously.

Jeez, £350 a month for insurance - really can't believe you were paying that!
I suppose that's a good thing about getting older, I'm 26 now and insurance was £280 for the year last renewal.

Anyway, back on topic. From the sounds of things you have a bit of experience driving quick cars and aren't likely to go mental in one so if you have the money and don't mind getting shafted up the backside for insurance then I say go for it.
