Before you say always buy from overlockers they didn't have any cheap am2+ boards in stock .

From this retailer i RMA'd my asus motherboard(about 6 months old) since the the pcb had started to peel off from the fan area and none of my parts would work on it.(i tested all of my other parts to make sure they work) and a employee said it would be fine to send back to Authorised my rma.

The retailer rejected my rma by saying "Fan track has exposed on the board" without even testing the board now i have the option to send it off to asus for repair or have it sent back to my house.

Should i be able to get a refund or not?

Thank you for reading.

what do you mean exactly by fan track exposed on the board?? does that mean the fan blades actually spun round on it literally?

Hi there,

When you say "the fan track had exposed" how did this happen? Did it come like this, did it happen when you were installing it or did it just develop on it's own over time?

AFAIK, if you have had the board for six months then you won't be able to get full refund, but the retailer should offer you a like-for-like replacement if the board doesn't work properly due to a defect in the board (not caused by you).

When they said they could send it to asus for repair, was this a free repair (covered by warranty) or a repair where they charge you?

When i booted up my pc as i do everyday i smelt something burning so shut my pc off, upon closer expection i found the area by the fan header peeling. I only has a 1000rpm fan running off the header and everything was perfectly fine before.

They said they would send the board to asus to attempt to repair it since it's under warranty.

TBH, I think that's fair enough. It may take a week or two, but you will get a working board back without spending any of your own money.

Rejected won't mean it will be a free repair. It means it's been rejected due to damage caused by you. Atleast, that's how I read the above. By any chance, is this the main competitor to OCUK and ryhmes with stan? I found them in the past awful for RMA. Literally, awful.
I still don't get what has happened without a pic of the fan header. It sounds like it has burnt out?

Yes they already sent the email for me to fill out then they will return it for free since it's under warranty.
Yes your right, first and last time i buy anything from them.

Here is a pic of the same thing that happened to my asus p5kc board

To be honest if I had two different boards that had the same issue then I'd look at the fan you are plugging into the header.. It looks like it's drawing too much current which, over time, degrades that part of the board.

I might be wrong, but to get to different boards to have the same failure, especially something as uncommon as that is highly unlikely.

They had different fans running on each board the old one use to run nexus real quiets so i'm sure it's not drawing too much.

Thats surely a fault? They must replace that. The people you bought it from are complete ****s with rejecting RMAs, I sent something back to them a week or two ago which got rejected despite a long description from me and a clearly defective product.

+1. Something is causing this. There must be a common factor. That pic certainly shows overcurrent damage.

I bought a DFI mobo from the same place. I took it back when it scorched and started to bellow smoke out of my case after only 3mths only to be told after two weeks of phoning them that these nothing they can do as DFI wouldn't honour the warranty.

Doesn't matter if DFI won't honour the warranty. Your contract is with the retailer and it's up to them to repair, replace or refund.

lol ill be staying away from "Stan" then if thats how they treat there customers

To be honest I have bought all my stuff from "stan" and had no issues, even on RMA time. They have won lots of awards for customer service and I agree.

However I have got some wonderful stories of OCuk RMA process, which have stopped me buying anything from them again. But, seeing as this is there forums I wont go any further. Ill be happy to tell in Trust or PM.
